Sorry where are we getting the 4 goals from… Cobblers 0 rovers 1 Rotherham 0 rovers 0 Stockport 2 rovers 0 I make that 1 goal. Of course you may be talking about the crappy EFL cup but does anybody really care about that…? The comment from Topper was: "After 4 games, two of which ended 2-0" You comment was that he was being factual. He wasn't. I was replying about our defence, I'm not sure mentioning the fact we conceded a further 3 goals in the EFL Trophy is really anything positive as far as the defence or MT is concerned.

All true and totally logically but frankly if we set our expectations by logic we should never dream bigger than about 8th. Financially that's where we are. You can transition for a couple of seasons then loose star players. Then what? Restart a cycle that never sees you peak as hoped? For me- it's about being as good as you can be all the time. If these players develop, then we would be aiming higher. As we would then have good established league 1 players that know the club and each others games. It we would sell some on and reinvest, like other clubs do. We are not handing out 3 year deals, to 33 year olds, like Stockport did with Norwood. That's looking at the short term. But what's he going to be like in 2 years time? I will give some leeway this season, as I can see we are looking at the long term. Stockport don't really have to worry what Norwood will look like in 3 years time if they get 2 decent years out of him, as by then they could be a Championship side. Lines was a similar signing for us and he played a big part in our double promotion, the fact he ran out of steam later in his Rovers career was irrelevant.

They could also still be in League 1 and be stuck with him. Lines was only 30 after our promotion to League 1, when he signed a new contract. So he was 29 or 30 when he resigned on a short deal.

Stockport's gambles have clearly paid off in recent season's, you sense they know more about how to run a football club than our owners. Norwood had a full season in the Premiership last season so it hardly seems like his legs are about to go! Plus we've no idea what the 3rd year of the contract is, it might be performance related or even a reduced salary.

Them letting him go, as he's not good enough for the championship, is a big sign his legs are going. A lot of players legs go at that age. So a 3 year deal, is a massive risk.

Signed good defenders dont you think? didnt sign Kite though everyone said he can only sign "devon mafia" players? This place After 4 games, two of which ended 2-0, it's a bit early to say MT's signed good defenders, you have to sense if our forwards don't start scoring soon we'll get into a death spiral where we collapse in games because we can't score. As things stand we don't seem to have a fit RB/RWB as Senior's out for 6+ weeks and Hunt never lasts more than a couple of games, as LT is clearly now a WB. FFS Now 3 out of 6 have ended 2-0
