Impressive summer transfer window overall. Seems a thought out and considered strategy is in place and being followed. All the new signings won't work, but some will and then we twist in December and next summer. Well done GF and MT.
And feel like there are 6 places nailed down currently Keeper, 3 centre halves, holding mid, and striker. All of those 6 have impressed me. Thought Promise was good today, and having watched that headed chance over several times, not sure he did much wrong. Conteh has a role and does it well. Really like the look of Mola aswell.
2 wing backs are not quite right yet. I want to be a fan of Luke Thomas, but I just don't quite get from him what I want.Belongs is a work in progress (which is fine). The midfield is yet to click, maybe Garret, maybe Hutchinson, but not sure yet. I live near Walsall and wfc fans tell me he can run very hot but also cold. Lynsey, and Senior may come into play when they are back. Like that we signed 2 strikers on last day of the window. And the changes today were attacking.
Started the season expecting mid table, thunking top half would be good. 10th or higher would be great. And based on the first 5 games I think 10-12th is doable.
W2 D1 L2. Fair enough
Enjoying watching us so far, and already looking forward to the the next time. Which is a good headspace to be in.
I read everyone else's views and some if the negativity is mad (to me), but compared to last season I think we have a better team and I have a lot of hope for some good results across the season. UTG

An average start to the season. We won our two home games v poor opposition. However we gained 1 point from 9 points away games.
Given the budget Taylor as had I would expect 9 points from the first 5 games and not 7.

UTG You won’t get what you want in a wingback from Luke Thomas - because he isn’t one. Never has been and never will be. Our most naturally gifted and technical player is being wasted - imo.

There was a prediction thread for the first 5 games ( can’t find it ?) but I guessed 7 points from those games and so did lots of others. So I think we are pretty much where we thought we’d be at this stage. For a completely new side and 3 really difficult away games that’s not too bad all things considered.

Beat Wigan next week and we are on ten points already with a squad that deserves time to gel surely ?

He played well in that role last week and both Barnsley's goals came from our left side, the way he simply fell over in the second half with no opposition player anywhere near him as plain odd. It's also odd what's happened to Hunt given he's apparently now fit but gets nowhere near the squad.

When we start beating top 10 teams away then I will accept progress . So far I just see an average mid table side. Given the budget Taylor as had I think we should be doing slightly better particularly away. Surely if we lose to peterboro and collect 1 point from 12 away will you accept its average ?

Surely Huddersfield, Birmingham, Bolton, Wrexham, Peterborough would be tougher. Stockport tricky yea, Rotherham also a new side and hardly firing, Barnsley not won a home game since February

We are in progress, not decline. Bright youthful innocent at times but a squad that will only improve with time. They will make mistakes and wrong decisions but they are not journey men trying to fill a gap. They will only get better, just give them time.

It’s a new team, a new project, a lot of work to do and the early stages of a work in progress.
I have no expectations, hopes or demands. I just support the lads on Matchday then win, lose or draw, move on to the next game.
It’s not a bad way to be and you end up posting far less rubbish on here after matches.

It is a project and happy to give it time, but we have spent a lot more than we have for years on transfer fees so there is some pressure on us. Thought we probably deserved to lose the Stockport and Barnsley games but we did create chances, especially yesterday. So I am hopeful!

We are very much where i expected to be and fully expect the ups and downs to continue this season, more ups than downs finishing a respectable 8th to 10th.Using a word which was rare on my school report 'satisfactory'!

Lots of promising signs and good that both our strikers are off the mark. I was (am still slightly) worried about goals in this team but I can see Omochere scoring a fair few this season and if Sotiriou / Forde can chip in with a few as well we'll be ok on that front.
My big issue is the formation. I hate it and very few teams are successful with it. For it to work, you need wingbacks who are the arguably your most important players, the fittest players in the side who can bomb up and down the pitch all day. Thomas and Bilongo aren't it for me.
I've also not been that impressed with Mola as others have been. Think he looks a liability under the high ball and has a mistake or two in him at any given moment.
I'd really like to see us play to our strengths and get the best out of our attacking assets, not wasting them at wing back. But I don't think i'll get my wish sadly.
I'd go 4-2-3-1 and something like:
Griffiths Hunt/Senior - Moore - Taylor/Wilson - Sousa Conteh - Garrett/Shaw/Ward Forde/Sinclair - Thomas/Hutchinson - Bilongo/Thomas Omochere

It's a shame that Hunt was signed to a long contract being a perennial 20-25 game per season man. It's really hamstringing (pun absolutely intended) our budget for that position in the team.
When he is fit, he's not really a RWB but a RB and doesn't have the legs or stamina to play in the same way LT does out of his natural position.
I absolutely agree that LT is wasted there but options are quite limited now we have lost Senior and Hunt is constantly broke.

Shaw probably did more in 10 mins than LT managed in the previous 80 mins, as soon as he just fell over for no obvious reasons yesterday he should have been subbed off, MT didn't mess about when he felt Bolingo had cost us a goal on the other wing.
