Interesting that MT in his interview also said we had lost recently to Cheltenham Reserves But we didn’t lose to Cheltenham in a “reserve” friendly. We drew 2-2 and there were positives to take from that game but that doesn’t suit the managers narrative that he wants to project. Why lie and say we lost when we didn’t? He could just as easily say we drew a game last week and there were some worrying performances in that….why lie? Certainly looks like there is a divide between the main 1st team starters / those he trusts and others There most definitely is a divide. Last night was horrible but among the worst performers on the pitch were players that will be playing v Huddersfield or have been regularly involved in starting first team games but you can be certain that the players hung out to dry will be those that have been on the fringes and who were chucked in last night massively undercooked and lacking game time…..which is exactly what last night was supposedly hoping to help with….and what ever other manager in the competition has referred to in their post matches. However, even if MT hasn't been actively involved in all of the transfer deals, it is clear that for whatever reason he isn't getting the best out of certain players be it the way he manages them or the roles he asks of them. Luke Thomas is a prime example. Seems like a confidence player who is being asked to play a role he isn't comfortable in. Now doesn't want to shoot or risk losing the ball trying to beat a man. Whilst i wouldn't be choosing him, I do feel for him MT clearly has issue with players who don’t fit the mould he may have fitted himself as a player. Head it, clear it, kick it. If you can do those things he’s happy. Players who can create and make thing happen and who are enjoyable to watch will always have an element of inconsistency and unpredictability about them but good managers are able to work with that, improve that and make it benefit them and their team within their framework. It’s called coaching and managing. Players like Thomas look lost, devoid of confidence and unhappy on the football pitch. Thats an environment issue. The manager sets the environment.

Where we are at, it reminds me a bit of when Bobby Gould was manager before Gerry Francis. There are some players with talent, some with little experience so were inconsistent. Resources were very low so players were given games rather than chop and change so quickly. Gerry Francis then came along, introduced a clearly defined playing style and which types of players would be effective.

I have only ever played parks football, but even at that level I have seen "player snobbery". When players are dropped down to the reserves, they either play "sulky" football or think they are Messi and can single handily run rings around inferior players (never happens though).
Being told to play in this cup, will be viewed as demeaning to some. Maybe they're right, but just do your job.

First 45mins were schoolboy standards at best, did not watch beyond the 3rd goal and have no intention of attending games anytime soon, especially with that idiot in charge.

BG and GF had players running through walls on pitches like ploughed fields, not like the manicured lawns of today.

On Hall, he may well be not good enough, but for him it must be hard to stay motivated when you aren't even selected for the bench. He is essentially just a number A victim of weird football rules? Having said that perhaps he’s fully aware of his position and is happy living the life of a pro footballer even though he knows it’s unlikely to a successful career?

Fair play for trying to turn a shambolic performance into some sort of positive! 😄 We are a joke. We’re in league 1 and we’re 3 points off the play offs and 6 off the drop after 10 games. There’s some things wrong at the club no doubt but we’ve had it far worse over the years. Personally I don’t care about the premier league backhander cup. If we stay up this season it’ll be an ok season and anything better will be a good season.

We`ll have spent an awful lot of money, simply to avoid dropping into the bottom division of the Football League.

At the time Geoff Dunford got a lot of flack but he understood football at this level and was shrewd and was a supporter. Ron Craig had a moral compass. They did not have the wealth of our recent owners but were local people who understood Bristol Rovers. They saw us through far tougher times than we face today. I'm not sure where the future lies for us at present. Question marks over both the owners and team management and a divided fan base most of whom have no more idea than those running the club. The Barton legacy is division and anger. Won't be long before we are back to the days of the gallant 5000 unless the internal problems are addressed and everyone pulls in the same direction.

Sure, people have their own expectations and we could all probably agree on what success might look like over short/medium/long time frames. The cup that nobody cares about. The result was likely a shock and disappointment because it wasn't made clear what the intentions were. If MT during the build up says that we are committed to the league and the cup is a distraction or chance for minutes, fine. Instead, he tried to win and it was an embarrassing defeat. As for our current position. It might be premature to comment on our season but for a club that has invested in players and is established in the division, our form guide over 10 is pretty dire. If staying up is the marker, then we have very different expectations of what is acceptable. That won't be MTs remit or the players ambition for the year. That might be Ipswich or Oxford or Stockport, but not us. If do, we may aswell start looking forwards to next year and hope there's more excitement.

I wonder whether that will meet the owners expectations given they've spent roughly £1.5m in transfer fees over 2 windows and also backed MT with a top 10(?) playing budget, what other manager outside the top 6/8 has had better financial backing? If DC or JB were still in charge would we be satisfied with just avoiding relegation this season?

We were told by those ITK that the playing budget was being cut by 25%. The truth is nobody knows what our budget is.

So he spent £1.5m and sold our best players for £1.25m. So his net spend is £250k. When you sell your best players and spending has massively increased this year, do you think £250k is enough for a play off push?

Yes, given that Rovers were relegated when managed by each of them.
