So sad - horrible disease. Always remember the sad day in an early round of the FA Cup the plate in his mouth nobody knew he wore got dislodged and stuck in his throat after a challenge. A magic bent spoon came to his rescue to dislodge it from his throat and Jocky was beck to terrorising wingers - especially those of Bristol city A top man and proud gashead Roy Dolling? Yes it was and v Fisher Athletic. “If it wasn’t for the club physio Roy Dolling, I would definitely have died. I swallowed my tongue, my denture plate snapped and half of it went down my throat. He used to carry a piece of metal in his kitbag. He flipped it down and pulled my teeth out.”

Jocks a legend. One of my all time favourite players. Really sad news. UTG It was 34 years ago but I can remember that side as if it was yesterday and if I close my eyes I can still see them gracing the slope of Twerton and beating the sh**. Parkin in goal Geoff and yatesey centre halves Joner lrft back Jock right back Reece and olly Percy left wing Boris right wing ( cutting in ) Bruno and Billy ocean up front.
What a team.

The Blue Diamond Club recently had Jeff Astle's daughter, Dawn, as a speaker at one of their regular luncheons, . Dawn talked about her Dad's life, and his diagnosis of early onset Dementia, with the Coroner concluding that his regular heading of a football had contributed to his death. The raffle raised £400, which was donated to the Jeff Astle Foundation. More information on Dawn's talk here - it is a very interesting, thought provoking read.

Jocky had a good match against Liverpool. Towards the end Dean Saunders either headbutted or elbowed Jocky.

Brought Boris down twice when clean through and the 2nd time it was clear pen and the ref didn’t even give it.

So sad to read of Jocks illness, he always gave 110% for the team. Perhaps a raffle and collection could be organised through the supporters club to raise money for Jock and the family. Could be done as part of remembering the Don Megsons team promotion in December. As for the Liverpool cup video put on here , Perhaps Taylor and his team should be made to sit down and watch it, and see how a Rovers team should play.

Very sad to hear Jock’s situation and we all wish him the best.
But for me football with heading the ball, it has to go into the boxing category and even cricket, their are dangers and consequences to the sport and you need to know this before you get into it.
I do hope the game (The FA) support him and his family. There is so much money in our game, they need to put aside some for players who do go on to get dementia and brain injuries for later life.
*we all know Jock love to chat and wind up the opponents, live by the sword and all that, I’m sure some like Dean Saunders gave the elbow out shut up our favourite right back!

That 1990 team was a team of legends. Such a shame for him that players were paid so badly then. He shouldn't be suffering and worried about his family. Definitely feel as Gasheads we should do something to help him in his time of need.
Top bloke and wish him all the best.
