There’s been a notable shift in the tone of Dan Hargreaves’ reports. Apparently Lindsay bundled home the goal last night! The board need to clear this up - back your man say he’s going nowhere and tell us how it is, or get rid, so the fan base can be clear. As mentioned previously I think a 4-0 loss would’ve pleased a lot of “gasheads”. The whole narrative of “lose this game and he’s gone” isn’t fair on anyone. Yes he may not be a flamboyant and charismatic manager, but he’s also a human being. I was thinking exactly the same. I don't like Dan Hargraves reporting at all. He has suttle digs at the club all the time in his reports and allows his bias of certain players to come through in his write ups. Bundle the ball home is ridiculous it was a brilliant finish. Gave Taylor an 8 with Wilson and Moore a 7 last night when first half Taylor was appalling. He's also started having digs at crowd numbers. He did it again last night and that isn't the first time he's done it. Wish we had Sam frost back reporting. Sam was excellent, was gutted when he moved on. Always asked really probing questions and thought his player ratings were on the money. Agree the board need to come out and say we fully support Taylor, he's going nowhere.

All good objective points btw, however I think there is a bigger picture also to consider. I remember very well the Graham Coughlan era and lower attendances with a more direct brand of football together with a quieter and less engaging demeanour as the reason we were happy (as fans) to let Cogs walk. I remember the grumbles about route 1 football and how unnattractive it was, and the space on the terraces where we were averaging 6500 a game 2 years after DC got us promotion back to L1. People just didn't appreciate what Cogs was doing, how well he was doing as well as what he was putting up with off the field, and I do feel there is a bit of that now. The overlay on the 2 periods of time are remarkably similar. A promotion from L2, the expectation we'll walk L1 within 2 seasons followed by a crash (or humbling) and a reappointment of manager where the personalities of the managers are so different people thought that we were in a tougher spot than we actually were. So when Cogs hung himself on radio we were happy to let him walk went and got Garner, then Tisdale, then Barton and we ended up relegated within 12 months. Could it be a case of be careful what we wish for if we sack MT? I know that we seem to lack identity which we clearly had with Cogs and by this time in October we had 22 points and sat 8th. However the differences with Cogs and MT are the wholesale changes that MT has had to make. This is a brand new side which will need to gel and I know the football isn't great but we are able to beat enough people to stay in this tough division this year currently. Is the squad better than what Cogs had? Id say so, but also those players had been together a lot longer than this group have. Am I happy with that, not really, but my worry is that I have no confidence that Hussain and Abdul are able to get someone else in that would do any better than what we are now and there being no guarantee of better football and any current changes to management will end up with us getting relegated. Its a pattern we have seen before and fallen prey to and I for one do not want to end up back in L2. So you give MT grace over Cogs, 20th October 2019, same time fly the year, just lost at Donny and Graham’s approach……… “I could see you looking frustrated on the sidelines, you didn't send the team out to play like that so it must have been frustrating to see it.” The group of lads I have are the group of lads I have.I think the world of them, I think they're brilliant. They give their all for this football club and we've had a couple of harsh words in the changing room but they've set the standards and when they fall below the standards, that's when I get annoyed and get a head on me with them. I'll back them and stick with them, they'll stick with us.

Gaslighting at its finest. What I'm saying is if we sack MT there is no guarantee the next bloke will bring the crowds back and if he does, it'll be short lived especially if we end up in a relegation fight.

Valid point guys but some of you need to put the business head on, I really stress this. Promise 600k Forde 400k Conteh 300k Hutchinson 250k Taylor 300k (Estimates, add in agent fees, all of it, we’ve spent well last 12 months) We’ve got £1.5 million quids worth plus in that squad last night. The new Sky Deal should be factored in top of a gate a year ago, 7,200 etc and not used as an excuse. If we are going by this excuse, we don’t ever need new stands, let’s make life easier just shut a stand as well 😂👏🏼 Exeter had 500 more than us last night, Stockport v Northampton, no needle, 8,500 plus. A club we should be looking at and aspiring to be is Oxford United who sold out 11,500 last night in the Championship. We need to stop making excuses, if we were playing attractive winning football then we’d have had 7,000 plus last night, we are winning at home and the customers don’t like it! Thanks Roadman - I have spent a fair chunk of my working life analysing businesses and for a moment ignoring our current situation, unfortunately really struggle to see any realistic medium term strategy for many EFL clubs, to make a profit, including the team I have supported for over 40 years. As Gasify stated earlier, most fans don't give a "****" about how much the owners lose, perhaps they increasingly see themselves as customers to be entertained, rather than supporters through "thick and thin". Based on them being the only EFL 1 club to make a profit last year, the "Peterborough" strategy seems to be the best one, but not all clubs can unearth future players that will earn them a great profit. At £3m Rovers were "in the pack" of the size of losses being seen. Whilst football teams, like rugby teams have often relied upon wealthy owners to bankroll the club, the size of the losses is multiplying and increasingly clubs are becoming owned by foreign owners, with little if any link to the local community, fans or history of the club. IMHO, in that regard, we were very lucky to have Wael at the helm whilst we did. I'm not sure Wael realised that the owners son was going to be so heavily involved in footballing decisions, but it certainly doesn't look like he chose people who are willing and able to spend like the owners of Oxford. £10m of losses in the last two years (to 6/23) funded by them and a £150m stadium build on the horizon. Perhaps it's all in the choice of owners, not the manager ... lol

But it’s MT PR and brand of football that is effecting the business, you see it just as a fan, imagine Steve Al Qadi Hussain now signing off the cheques? You are also creating your whole view on Garner and Barton squad getting relegation. I have a far more optimistic view than you, I see a good squad, much better than Garner’s which just needs a spark and a bounce. Loads of examples of teams struggling and a new voice ignites them, it’s what Cogs actually did with DC’s lot. It took Trollope a while but he did it with Atkins lot, I won’t live off wife beaters season when he took us down.

And what will relegation cost us if we copy and paste the 20/21 season appointments again? Approx £2.5m in lost EFL revenue for starters, plus the gates on top of that. The board could do so much more to give the fans confidence and inspiration to come to the games too, but we haven't heard from our owners in a while, there is a clear split at that level, the management of the WSM home game has been shambolic and will likely cost us more money and it's down to them to address that. The football is only compounding it and is part of the problem. I also see a good squad here, I want MT to succeed, probably more than you and I'm just wary of history repeating itself on the back of emotion getting in the way of a calmer approach.

782 fans are not happy, Tuesday 24th October 2023 we had this many more than last night and this was the game Barton was sacked. 6,361 v Shrewsbury 2024, 23rd October 7,143 v Stevenage 2023, 24th October Same sort of appeal in clubs playing against, same sort of away following (Stevenage brought more), no needle game. The stattos love a stat, some of us are in business, at £20 a head last night, we lost approximately £15,000 on gate receipts from a year ago and not taking into effect food and drink. Back to the stattos, 3 wins in 4, 9 in 12 points, if we lose Saturday a return of 9 in 15 is good 🥱. So we have all these stats, the fans are just not turning up, why is this? It’s because many see the curve and not the stats and many see the brand of football dished up! We’ve Cambridge and Shrews at home and Burton away in all these last 3/4 statto wet dreams! But the business is losing more and more money hand over fist and the customers are refusing to go. If we carry on like the is over a season, £15,000 a home game, we will lose another £250,000 plus with no sales promotion (on the pitch) for season ticket sales next season. Either MT starts to deliver entertaining football at home soon or we are going to see 5,000 attendances. If I was running this club, the owner signing off cheques, I would be alarmed at the so called stats v income coming into the club. Being in business, have you ever invested in the future? Taking a short term hit for long term gains? That is the story we are being told and to a certain extent, I can understand the business strategy. Let's say, we make a loss of £300k on gate receipts and food/drinks but we sell Mola or Billongo for £500k at the end of the season. That would be good business?

Liam Manning just kept Oxford up and that summer they did what we did and he left them in the play offs, Buckingham then took them up. Steve Evans did the same at Stevenage, ultimately MT is paid to coach and train players. He has instilled the style of football on them, name one player who has improved since his appointment? Stop living off the past, stop thinking about what relegation would cost us, it’s a good squad and we should be playing better. The manager’s PR is anti squad, the owners don’t publicly back him and all this is killing us. Three wins against absolute fodder, it’s all covering up the cracks. You keep kidding yourself, with this manager unless he unites the squad and brand of football, it will be him who takes us into a relegation battle, I could see this team easily losing 6 on the bounce. I was a big fan of MT, he has eroded all my confidence and I look at the job he did at Rotherham. He had a dig last night at the fans and attendance, he digs at the squad and the hierarchy, he owns nothing, do your job and coach a better brand of winning football and make your staff happier.

Our average attendance in 2019/20 was 7,300. We’ve not averaged 6500 since 2014 Our current average attendance is 8100... 6500 in one game on a Tuesday night against a team in the bottom 4 doesnt become our average, dust. This is true, and the midweek games are now all live on Sky. That will make a difference. I know 3 people who decided to watch it on the box last night, and there are no doubt a lot more who did the same. If last nights game wasn't on TV there would have been more there, how many, who knows, but it does make a difference, so comparing this seasons attendances to previous years is probably not fair. As for the game, we did just enough to earn the points and give Taylor a stay of execution. The players certainly worked hard to save their gaffer's job and I think we probably deserved the win. Forde should have scored early on, their keeper got lucky when he dropped a corner onto the post, we hit the crossbar twice in the second half, and scored a very good goal. Maybe got a bit lucky with the offside equaliser, but I think overall we edged it. Biggest postive to come from last night apart from the result was Shaq Forde. Thought he was excellent. Should have scored his early chance, but was a constant threat, got himself an assist, and should have had 2 as I'm pretty sure he put Promise through on goal in the second half. Has to be a regular starter now in my opinion. Can we get anything at Reading on Saturday, probably not. They're going very well, joint 5th with a game in hand on Huddersfield and Wrexham. They've also won 5 out of their 6 home games this season, scoring 13 conceding just 4. If we do come back with a point or 3, then I'll start to think Taylor might actually prove the doubters - myself included - wrong, and maybe change some peoples opinion, because it will probably take more than a narrow victory over struggling Shrewsbury to do that.

Great result last night well done MT and the team. This was never going to be a classic but credit to the players sticking to the task and coping with the pressure this sort of fixture brings. Maybe now with a bit of pressure lifted we can start to look up or at least consolidate our current position. I’m still not convinced by MT, but am prepared to give him time. Same with the new squad maybe they are beginning to gel and play as a unit. Perhaps if we get some success on the pitch we might get a break from hearing about what may or may not be happening off of it.

*community note* Bristol Rovers won the game and they have got 9 points out of a possible 12 points. That’s promotion form. *Business Note* The club is losing money and there was not 6,300 in attendance tonight, will this game attract more fans to come back? *Reality Note* 4 of our 5 wins have came against Burton, Cambridge, Shrews and Northampton below us. A good win against mid table Charlton. I am just being a decent bloke and warning the “community” that the fixtures have been good to us and tough times are coming. I hope the community understands my care for them and us, I’d be surprised if normal service doesn’t return Saturday based on tonight’s showing. *Reality Note* We have played 4 teams in the top ten as well as Rotherham, Charlton and Peterborough. We are where we would expect to be with a completely new squad and young squad.

Certainly doesn't help casual fans decide to attend a game in person, if they read threads like this, where there is so much doom and gloom. Why don't we big up the club and players for a change, we can impact the team by doing this, instead of the constant slating by some supporters.
I did attend last night, and saw a team that really were trying to play reasonable football, some of it was quite good, some not so much, and some pretty poor. Yes the club has spent some money this season, but nowhere near the amount of some clubs in the league, so we are currently sitting mid table, but with 4 home games in quick succession, play well, and could have a meteoric rise up the table. It could also have been an influencing factor on attendance. I know I certainly questioned going (and hold a ST) due to so many home games in quick succession. A few beers, some food and do that 5 times in a month gets expensive very quickly.

But my thinking is Orient beat Rotherham last night, they are not that good! Charlton finished 16th last season, where does it stop saying we played big clubs just because they are big? Lose Saturday it just goes round and round.

One positive from last night was the obvious relationship between Sotiriou and Forde (from playing together at orient last year). Three examples on the extended highlights, confirmed that Ruel constantly looks for and finds Shaq with fast intelligent passes that create opportunities. Hope they both start on Saturday.

I can see both sides to the argument. The football has been poor and we keep changing things up. We can't seem to defend corners, which is a worry and Taylor used to be a defender, so you would think that's one thing he should have sorted out. But when the keeper doesn't come for crosses, it makes it hard. There has been a lot of changing the side, Hutchinson got a goal on Saturday and had one of his best cameo's, yet he didn't play tonight. On the other side, we have been without our main goal scorer for most of the season, it's a tough league this year and we are still only 3 points off the play offs. Yes, we have beaten some poor teams. But we are Rovers, we lose to poor teams all the time🤣. We have a new squad and the manager still doesn't know his strongest squad. Players like Forde, are now only getting up to speed. After 3 wins in 4, he deserves a few more games at least. But if he was sacked today, I wouldn't be bothered. Agree with a lot of this. Especially the comment at the end. I’d keep Taylor, he’s done enough to get this team performing - there were glimpses in attack last night of what we could be capable of. Ironically though I felt the same for Barton at the time though, thought he deserved some of the easier fixtures that were coming up, but I wasn’t bothered that he was let go I’d be very disappointed if he was sacked tomorrow after 3 out 4 wins , it would make us as a club look ridiculous. Why would any manager want to come here if the board acted in that way ? Don’t get me wrong , I’m no Taylor fan boy but let’s sack him after a really bad run of results not just a blip.

For now we have to keep going IMO. It's a close call, but the reality is we're generally beating those we should beat, and losing to those who will likely finish above us - so all as to be expected. We're 3 points off the playoffs and we had wholesale changes in the summer, so will likely start slowly and therefore will hopefully improve as time goes by.
Anyone thinking we'd finish top 10 this season was having a laugh. It's not impossible but would have been a case us overachieving rather than delivering what was expected. Yes we "splashed the cash" on one or two, but we also lost Collins and Evans who pretty much picked up the cheque in that sense.
If we start losing to the teams we're beating (i.e. the games we should expect to win) and continue to lose those we probably shouldn't, then we'll have a big problem and probably little choice. But, like it or not, right now MT is delivering the results we should be expecting. Is the "brand" of football top tier? No. But is any League One side in the bottom half of the table anything other than that? I doubt it.
Let's be completely blunt about this; the biggest problem is that there are a very noisy group of Bartonistas who will do all they can to see Taylor sacked ASAP. That's not to suggest for a minute that everyone who wants Taylor gone is a Bartonista, but pretty much every Bartonista wants him gone.

One positive from last night was the obvious relationship between Sotiriou and Forde (from playing together at orient last year). Three examples on the extended highlights, confirmed that Ruel constantly looks for and finds Shaq with fast intelligent passes that create opportunities. Hope they both start on Saturday. I think that front 4 has to get a run of games now. We have issues at the back and I think the best way to overcome those is focus on what we potentially have in that front 4. Depending on fitness, injuries cycle in LT or Hutchinson in the 3 behind Promise
