It's a bit strange isn't it?. We look on here for rumours, chats down the pub and with workmates all talk about the gossip and when the new players are officially announced we give our "expert" (sic) reviews.
In truth, nearly all the signings in the last ten years, I have not even heard of.
I bet if we look back 10 months ago, most people were enthused by George's work. Ah, the benefit of hindsight.
If we sign a regular 15-20 goals a season centre forward there is no guarantee it will click at Rovers. We will be told of the new signings stats, Pirate will give an informed opinion but at the end of the day, previous performances mean nothing.
Look at managers records. Buckle v Francis would be no contest if you looked at what they had achieved before joining Rovers.
Some new signings will be good, a few will be excellent and many will be pretty average, with a few terrible. It's very much a law of averages.
We can talk about how excellent Brighton and Brentford are at scouting but no doubt they will have signed 10 or so players each in the last 4-5 years that just haven't worked.
At least we know DC won't stand for any messing. He gets things wrong, definitely, but I feel pretty optimistic he will no doubt improve the performances of the majority of the squad he has inherited and with the new additions (some good, some bad) that we will be at least in the top ten with 6 games to go, so will have something to play for.
Knowing DC, I'm not so sure about a cup run through!
No doubt I'll look on here on Saturday morning for the latest rumours.

Most people except Pirate have never heard of our new signings, but it doesn't stop anyone deciding where exactly the newbies will play, how good they have been, what their transfer value is and whether they have personal problems worth investigating.

After seeing the interview with Ollie Dewsbury on the official site I’m hoping the DC effect will enable him to perform like a new signing!
Mind you for supporters of a certain age the further into the interview you get the more you are reminded of The Fast Show!

That would arguably have kept us up He scored less than 1 in 4 and only scored 1 goal this year. I didn't watch much of him though, so I'm not sure how he was playing. At 30 he can still have another few years, but he was a powerful player. So, hopefully he hasn't lost that power of he does sign. A lot will depend on his wages. Apparently he signed for high wages and he's not worth that now. But if we can get him on loan, paying a percentage that it could be a good deal. |
