RCB signing?? Aaron McGowan rumour Unlikely based on this after he rejected a contract extension from the cobblers. Full-back McGowan, 28, was offered a two-year to remain at Sixfields but has opted to return closer to his wife and new baby in Liverpool, after four years with the Cobblers. McGowan leaves after making 131 appearances and Nolan said the player departs with his full understanding. "His wife and newborn live in Liverpool and, having spoken with his family, it will be a lot to take on a new contract with us and it would make it six years away from his family if he was to stay here," Nolan said., external "He said the offer we made was really good but at this stage of his life he wants to be somewhere where he can go home every night to see his family grow up and I fully understand that." Maybe his wife is happy moving to Bristol but not Northampton.

This is the one that interests me the most. RM was very clear saying we were signing a number 9. This would indicate he plays off the left so adapting to a 9 role in a big old tough league 2 could be errrr tough. Unless we’re getting Cavegn plus a 9. Hmmm so where’s our number 9 we’ve been promised? (Excuse the pun) unless they’re easing him in from out wide. I previously posted his 24/25 season heat map to show he spends a lot of time from a wider position

Would Chuks Aneke be worth consideration? Ripped it up when he last played at the level (admittedly a few years ago!), but has suffered his fair share of injury problems over the years. 6'3" versatile option and can do a job all across front line or even deeper role.

Someone else (other than Cambridge) has bid for Harry Smith at Swindon, could it be us?
"New bid received for Smith from a new club according to the same twitter account that broke the news before"

View AttachmentGot shot down for this back earlier in the summer. I think he’d be a magnificent addition, JCH style.

"New bid received for Smith from a new club according to the same twitter account that broke the news before" Depends on if we believe DC or not. He has said 2 defenders and 2 midfielders so it would suggest it isn't us but DC does like the odd mind game.

As bad as we have been so far, we could have had 2 wins with a decent forward Yes but whilst we are waiting for the end of the window quality we’re playing two of last season’s squad at CB and another at WB and we know the three of them can’t keep their minds on defending for more than ten minutes at a time. This time it’s not the keeper that presided over our relegation behind them (Jed) but someone who had a worse shots saved ratio at the same level! We need another two defenders anyway but if we’re to take DC at his word if any of last season’s squad fall by the wayside they shouldn’t be part of the scene by September and that makes 3 hovering over the trap door.

Cambridge have had £75k and £100k bids rejected. Apparently there was talk of them getting a million for him in the summer. I find that very hard to believe for a 30 year old in L2.

Two midfield signings that would transform our season IMO: Charlie McCan, 23 years old. Free agent having just left FGR.
Chris Conn-Clarke, 23 years old. Out of favour at Peterborough. Probably available for a modest fee.

Given his attributes and goal return, I’d be happy with that (if we’re even in for him 🤣)

DC could work magic with him I reckon. He'd be the perfect replacement for Hutchinson

Alfie Massey, Millwall, gone on loan to Weadlestone, surprised that he's not been loaned to a League Two club.

How many signings are needed to turn that shambles into a promotion chasing side?
4 won't be enough in my opinion. We need to try and get rid of some of last seasons squad that are still dragging us down, and probably need at least 6 quality additions to have any chance of a top 7 finish.
DC is right when he said we don't need squad fillers. We need players that are significantly better than what we've got. You wouldn't have thought that would be difficult.

I really liked that comment too and the fact he was hoping to get some reenforcement(s) in before Saturday.

Need a new spine, but we have needed it before the season began and to lose Connor has made us even weaker. Strong CB, a box to box midfielder and a big strong striker who can hold the ball up. If we can offload 2 or 3 more wasters from last season's squad then happy days.

I would say 4 is a bare minimum if no one else leaves, which there definitely will be leavers. We need 2 CB's as we're critically low and in my opinion Kilgour, Mola and Moore are not good enough, 2 central midfielders, 1 attacking midfielder to replace Hutchinson, Right winger and an on loan centre forward as I think Dewsbury needs to go out on loan. I like him but he's not going to add anything just yet, too young.
