Assault charge for GTFC fan accused of hitting steward with inflatable shark
A GRIMSBY Town supporter has been charged with assault for allegedly striking a steward with an inflatable shark.
Kenny Meech, 50, was one of the 969 Mariners supporters who travelled down to The Hive stadium to watch his team secure a dramatic 3-1 victory over Conference leaders Barnet on Saturday.
Kenny, of Alexandra Road, Cleethorpes, said the incident took place during the celebrations after Craig Disley's injury time goal for Town.
The supporter, who works as a sheet metal worker on the South Humberside Industrial Estate in Grimsby, said he will deny the charge of assault and that he cannot remember his inflatable shark making contact with the steward.
