Q. If we get promoted this season will we be a better club for being relgated last season
A. No we already are a better club because of Darrell Clarke. Had Darrell been able to keep us up we would probably be where Wycombe and Shrewsbury are. If we do get promoted we will have just lost a year.

Interesting question this one. Putting stadium to one side, I'd say we have a similar quality team vs 12 months ago but more motivated, up for it and hopefully less expensive. And an optimistic fan base that mainly now think there is hope again. That in my view is down to DCs coaching and the clubs buying / exiting dead wood. So from that perspective I'd say yes. But it feels well fragile on the money front and very dependent on one man. Would you say yes if DC walked out tomorrow?

I think some people are mistaking Club with Team. The team are part of the club, but I also think there have been improvements in the management of the budget coaching and playing staff. Mighty Oaks from little acorns grow as the saying goes.

The fact is, we have been poor for years. A year in non-league football is hopefully the wake up call we needed because we no longer deserved to be a league club when run like an amateur side. If we go up, it will be interesting to see if we have learned from our mistakes. Lets not kid ourselves, this division is poor. Maybe I am being a bit negative, but we sit top of the league without really getting out of 3rd gear. IF we go up, next season will be the real test in my opinion. We have the right manager for the job though. i dont agree, this team have been flat out in top gear all season,,league 2 isnt all that,,,

What absolute tosh!!! Lets bash the club at any chance..... - We will have a communications advisor in place
- The fans are more united as a result of promotion. (Higher season ticket sales, merchandise etc)
- Whilst this could go one way or the other admittedly. We will have an answer on the Stadium. If positive this is massive.
Let me put it another way. If we weren't top of the league would you still think radical changes had been made and the CLUB was totally different. We have got a great young manager by the looks of things who has recruited well, but we could so easily have appointed another Buckle or MM. The standard IS lower down here (half the teams are part time for gods sake!) so yes I would expect us to do well regardless of club changes. I am by no means a board basher, in fact I have often stuck up for them on the old forum, who else is gonna run the club? But the bottom line is in response to the original post, will the club be better off? Other than the knock on effect of success on the pitch very little has changed. UTG

UTG Morning, i don't think radical changes have been made to be honest but my reasons mean I feel we are better than last season. i agree in someways we should be doing well in this league, I have been told for 5 years by my closest friend (a Luton fan) Ahow hard this league is. It's taking me great pleasure winding him up saying he was lying to me for all that time and we are showing it up for what it is. A pretty scrappy, hard working league. However void of much quality. However to add perspective plenty of decent teams don't go back up. We are no better or bigger than Luton. To answer to your board question, I like in MK and until this season have managed Saturday football. So my opinion from albeit rather uneducated and from a distance is that I don't really get what the board have done wrong. in my eyes they have pushed hard to get a new stadium, when people talk about players on long contracts that's surely supporting a manager and the manger who pushed for these players takes a fair bit of flak. Have they made mistakes, yes. Wrong managers appointed, yes. Stadium going to plan, not really. HOWEVER I don't get the hatred toward them, I don't see their actions being thought out and intentionally harmful to BRFC?? I stand here to be educated of course but that's my opinion for what it's worth.

I just don't think anything much has changed since going out of the league, not club wise anyway. To be honest though it doesn't overly bother me either. We have been rag bag Rovers for the 30 odd years I have supported the Gas and it's not something I have ever really worried about. I just love being a Gashead! I would love us to be up around the championship watching good football and going to decent grounds but until we get a big money investor (which I'm not sure is a good thing) or move to a new ground (which I can't see happening, but hope I am wrong) we are where we are and will probably continue to be so. Misguided maybe, but let's be honest most of the contracts they handed out etc but most people agreed with a lot of the managers/players they have signed. Aside from playing they have come closer than anyone to getting us a new ground. The major supermarkets are in turmoil which is common knowledge. I'm not sure it's the boards fault that Sainsbury's are trying to get out of the contract. To say Nick Higgs doesn't care what happens to the club is a bit strong imo. UTG

Who's to blame then for Conference football and the millions of debts, fans & now it seems former directors banned, suggestions there were no issues with Sainsbury's when they'd obviously indicated they didn't want to proceed. Don't let the fact we're doing well on the pitch cover up the fact behind the scenes the club's in awful shape, particularly if we don't at least get some compensation from Sainsbury's in May. If we don't go up this season and then lose the court case there might not be a BRFC to support next season, the way the Conference treat clubs with financial problems, that's how grim things are, fans are deluding themselves if they think otherwise.

This is what I don't get. Let me touch on some of your points your blaming the board for. - Relegation. How can we blame Nick Higgs and the directors for mis performing players. All manager appointments were made with good intentions. On paper Ward was a sound appointment. It didn't work out but unless you can lend Nick Higgs your crystal ball no chairman can just appoint someone with guaranteed success. - The stadium/compensation. So we are blaming Higgs for having ambitions to build a stadium for trying to push things on. Is TRASH Horsfield his fault??? You'd be on here giving him a lot more stick if we weren't trying to build a stadium.

UTG You don't think budgeting a break even point of 9,000 fans for a club who was averaging a gate of just over half that is reckless? You don't think failing to have a financial contingency for relegation because "we were only in the relegation zone for 70 minutes" is reckless? You don't think scrapping both the reserve set up and the scouting network to rely on YouTube and agent was reckless? I dread to imagine what you think reckless is.

I agree As I said earlier I don't think the club will be in better shape and success on the pitch will only be papering over the cracks. The money from bigger gates will help if course. However I can't get my head around the board bashing. They backed their managers, they tried to get a new stadium and they're not exactly getting rich off the club to my knowledge? You could say this time they got it right with DC but you could also argue we've fallen that far we've finally found a level where we actually are better than the teams in the league we're in. In which case they've done nothing different to what they did before just with a better outcome! Either way I wouldn't blame the board for that. UTG
