Gow is quality, if fit he will score more than JJ did last year and have a bag full of assists. Just my opinion. If he had stayed fit last year we would not be here now.

Well our back 4 and GK are good enough. Will we sign a better DM/CB than Lockyer? I doubt it. We really need 3 attacking MF/wide players. I recon White will be great for us. I don't see more than 2 players tops coming in before trials and pre season. Do you think this team will good enough for promotion? For me it's a no. Mildy Smudger Parkes Macca Browner Lockyer Alfie/Ellis New CM New Winger Gow Brunt I think Mr Clarke likes a 4-4-2 so maybe Brunty with Taylor/white up front and Harrold used chiefly as an impact sub. -----------------------------Milders--------------------------- smith -----------------Lockyer ---------------------------Parkes ------------------Brown new winger -------------------new d/m ------------Gow -------------------new winger -------- Brunt ---------------White/taylor ---------- a def midfielder in the mould of Gary jones with a slightly bulked up Tom Lockyer as the right footed centre half.Gow could be great as a playmaker but the worry of him being injury prone or possibly only being here for a last big payday will be a gamble and probably a major factor as to how well we do next season.

I dont see Gow scoring as many as JJ as he only had 14 in two seasons for Exeter and prior to that has not scored many since he was at Airdree in 2002. I do think he will add quality as this level if he can overcome the horid injury he had last season . Bad ankle ligament injurys leave your ankle very prone to going again however fit or well looked after you are. Im glad we are giving him a chance in pre season as 90 minutes at Twertom will show what state the ankles in.

Gow is a quality player and will be a stand out in the conference if we can keep the bloke fit. Him in behind Taylor and White would cause the opposition all sorts of trouble... It's all about that ankle.

It's all about that ankle. Have to agree with you there and with newmarket, Gow would be quality at this level, but as you say, its all about keeping the guy fit. Hopefully, having the best partof 6 months off and a full pre-season will be enough. Please excuse my ignorance, but is the ankle a particular weakness or is he just generally injury prone?

I see a lad called Adam Mekki has been released by Aldershot (financial reasons).... worth a punt.

I see a lad called Adam Mekki has been released by Aldershot (financial reasons).... worth a punt. I think the "financial reasons" might be a sticking point here too...he's been there a long time and if he was good enough (the news articles are always talking about a 'rebuild to challenge for the League'), or wasn't asking for too much I'm sure he'd have stayed...

Well we need to sign someone soon. Last season proved that you need a good pre season or you will struggle from the start. Doesn't training start again soon?

I have to say I'm shocked we've only signed one player to date. With the number of players we need to bring in I'd have expected at least 3 by now... probably 4 or more?!

Taylor and White.
Plus retaining LB is like a 3rd signing.
I agree though, I thought we'd have at least one winger lined up by now.

The players report back for preseason next monday 30/06/14 Indeed. DC originally said he was hoping to have pretty much his entire squad in place by then!! IMO, if that is to be true we need AT LEAST six signings in the next week... probably seven!

Don't hold your breath mate, I have a feeling this years squad is going to be a lot smaller than we first thought. Nothing against that as long as they don't all go down with a letter from mummy saying " he can't play this week because his knee hurts " Hope I am wrong and we get a few more in. UTG

We are still seriously lacking a creative midfield force and any sort of pace and width. Gow is not robust enough to count upon and we all know what a busy treatment room does to a squad. I am guessing that by the end of next week we will all be very disappointed at the lack of signings still. I too remember the promise of a 'squad' starting pre-season training, however I also remember the arrogance and ignorance of our board and it would not surprise me at all to see them think they know better and try and do it with next to nothing - after all, didn't we so say have the 'quality' players to survive last season? Time for Clarke to prove he is the one making the decisions and not just acting as a propaganda mouthpiece for the goons in box one.

The ligament surgery (brostrom) involves taking out the ligaments and creating fewer but stronger ones i think by tying them together. This leaves good movement but they are very very prone to going again. I did mine initially changing direction and being kicked at full stretch. The second time i was jogging slowly in a straight line. There is a second type of surgery where you remove tendon from somewhere else and replace the ligament with it. Makes a much tougher repair but next to no movement. So even if you have never had a previous injury a serious ankle ligament injury leaves you at massive risk of a new sprain or tear. Big gamble to make

Considering the supporter pacifying build up we had before the previous 2 signings, it's worrying that there seems to be radio silence on signings at the moment.
By my maths we still need:-
- Replacement RB for Smudger (safe to assume he's off) - Cover at CB - Cover for FB's - At least 1 creative CM - 2 wingers
So, minimum of 6. Personally I would add in a quality forward but more of a 'want' than 'need'.
DC clearly stated that the last 2 weeks of June would be the busiest weeks, with him hoping to bring in vast majority of the squad then. So far, total of 0 signings......
Starting pre-season training for 14 players is hardly going to make a statement to the players that we mean business this season!
