Hi I decided late Monday night to put my name forward for election to the post of fans director, the elections being held later this year. The closing date is 30-6-2014,I had sent two letters to BRSC + an email, yesterday I had a email reply and was able to download the nomination form.I am hoping to get two local people to sign the form by tonight ,but so far I am unable to contact them. I spoke at the Supporters Club EGM recently and have posted my thoughts on The Independent Fans Forum under the name Richard Hannay, I did have two people who were prepared to nominate me but one is in Cornwall the other in Glastonbury so time is not on our side. I didn`t realize the nomination date was so imminent and am standing reluctantly, but it was a question to do something or do nothing. The latest pronouncement from Mr Higgs does beggar belief. I will say I do support both the Wellington Pub group and the BRISA group(one of the co-founders has offered to propose me),I will be at the Wellington Pub next Tuesday July Ist, I do think the the two groups will need to combine at some point soon. But a dual approach via the Supporters club and and an independent group could work who knows ? This is hopefully just a backup plan, but this is a work email so you would need your help today if you can help, or you could you email me on rod7654@yahoo.co.uk. PM if you can help.
Regards.
Rod Chapman.

I'd be tempted to join the SC just to get the right to vote someone new in.
Good luck!

Ask him what he would actually DO that is differant to the 2 we have.Oh and what he COULD actually achieve, not just what he would LIKE to happen! And I am not being funny here.I asked him on the other forum, has some ideas but I am not convinced,a bit pie in the sky I thought. P.S Am NOT sticking up for BSS & KM here, but if there is to be a change,I for one want it to be for the right reasons, not just "lets have a go at the SC directors" because that's all it seems we can do. I guess not everyone will agree with me!!

What do you want to know BS10er ? Firstly I have to get the two people to sign the form and get my nomination in by Monday, then I have to garner support, I am standing reluctantly not because of any ego trip, but as we are at an all time low,and the club`s directors have lost a lot of trust and goodwill from the supporters.I have nothing against BSS or KM they are merely tarnished by association with the current board,I realise they have only limited power to effect change, but when do we hear any communication from them? Brian certainly is very visible on match days,Ken is hardly seen at all.Ponder these facts. 1/ The share scheme has received over £1 million pounds from the fans, but as of the start of the new season, the fans shareholding will be just under 5%,that`s hardly fair is it? 2/ The fans are disaffected and estranged from the club, what other multi-million pound turnover business would wilfully close down their major form of communication with their only stakeholder 10 days after turning in their worst results in their history. 3/ If we are to revive our fortunes,we need a united fan base,a manager who can provide a winning team which hopefully provides attractive and entertaining football, a board that can deliver the stadium we require whilst building a long term strategy based on sound financial principles,do you see this board doing this without pressure from the Supporters, the best way of effecting change is through the Supporters club.I maintain that a dual approach is worth pursuing,so will be attending the meeting at the Wellington this Tuesday,if you can make it find me out and have a chat. We can debate issues all day on the forums but talking face-to-face is much better. As I have made this decision at the last minute I am quite relaxed about it,whatever happens I will continue to support the club through my season ticket, share scheme and helpline. Have a good weekend. Regards. Rod. NB I will make myself known at the meeting to Mark one of the organisers.

Specifically what do you want to know? Do you have any cats? At least now I know what my question will be if I get into the fans meeting...

whilst neither endorsing or refuting your nomination I do find it strange that indivuduals who purport to represent the supporters dont give routine and regular feedback to the people they are meant to represent as to thet they have done

it's a slight shame that this has come on swiftly and people weren't totally prepared for it.
I hope someone stands against BSS as (1) I think someone else could do better, and (2) a 1 horse race would hardly be an endorsement of democracy.
by the by, I've just been on the SC website and can't find ANY information anywhere of how to stand as a Director or even that an election is taking place. Strange. Or am I blind?
The problem is that unless the 'fan's directors' SERIOUSLY challenge the Board AND will step away from the board if they are not taken seriously, then no-one deserves my vote. Changing BRFC from the inside is very unlikely to happen, so we need something more radical than we are currently presented with.

Mehew easy to suggest that Brian isn't doing a good job from the sidelines, the old statement "only one way to eat an elephant"?
If somebody does replace him & goes to a Board meeting tub thumping then they will have any chance of creating change taken away immediately, diplomacy will be the only way to get results.
Small bites is the answer to the question

MM - info re. the SC AGM and the posts which were up for election appeared briefly on the website, just before the deadline for publicising the same (31 May). It is now a few pages back, in the News Archive section. Info hereThe more detailed info about election to the Committee is buried elsewhere!

Small bites is the answer to the question you believe what you want to believe. it's a rotten borough. diplomacy fails every time with dictators. always does. it's called appeasement. Tell Joe Slovo, Walter Sisulu, John Garang, Meles Zenawi, Jomo Kenyatta, Martin Luther, etc about 'diplomacy' as an engine for change. I would happily be a fan's director if I had the time and if I thought it could change anything. I don;t see how that could be construed as 'easy to suggest Brian isn;t doing a good job from the sidelines'. The system is rotten. No-one could do a good job in it. I don't really want to be part of that system, but that doesn;t mean I'm being negative. I have suggested an alternative. Take the fan's directors away and let the business men run THEIR club.
