Well this is rather pleasant. ####################

Members 519 posts Posted 16 July 2015 - 09:39 PM My god there are some mindless comments on here. Just think back to the JPT at home to the gas. Quite Simply the best atmosphere I have even been in during a football match and I am an old git. Do we really want to see that rivalry die. Sainsbury have sh1t on rovers as they have sh** on numerous others, how would you feel if the boot was on the other foot. All this guff of we hate the rovers, the gas took the water in our hour of need is not better than play ground politics. It's about time we showed them some support. Long live the rivalry that I grew up with. You never know how much you miss things until it's gone, it's then too late.

I agree with G79 why do we need to build a ground for Premiership football now when we've spent virtually all our history in the lower leagues? What we need now is a ground fit for Div 1 & 2 football with pp to expand if we reach the Championship but even that could be a minimum off 5 years away. Will the UWE/S Glos allow us to build say a 12,000/15,000 seat stadium at a cost of £20m? If not we really need to reconsider redeveloping the Mem, otherwise we could spend decades more searching for a ground & then getting pp. We also need clarification from NH if he's appealing, I so, how long the process is going to take? Years? Nick Higgs is not appealing.

As for Socrates, the limit of his ambition is obviously league 1. You might as well support Forest Green if that's the case. This club needs a ground capable of top flight football for many reasons, but the one that haunts me the most is the gentlemen t'other side of the river. I don't suppose their ambition is the championship. They will over the next few years really go for the big one, while we are enjoying the weather in league 1 if we are lucky Socs. You stick to your ambition, and I'll keep my sights aimed a little higher. You never know. Socrates has said nothing wrong,he is just being realistic. Whether the sh1t go up to the prem or not, is nothing to do with the size of their ground ,more the never ending funding from their sugar daddy. Bournemouth could be another example, and they have a smaller capacity than us but will be playing in the prem. And they too have a rich sugar daddy

We sold Eastville to the dog company because at the end of the war we were £10,000 in debt. We were given a 50 year lease at a peppercorn rent. Of course the moment the M32 was built it became a prime piece of land. Our rent went up to £250,000 a year on a 3 year deal. So off we went to Bath. Eastville was a dump from the 70's onward. Yes if the m32 had been a mile away we would still be there, and yes if we still owned it, we could afford to have the biggest stadium in the western hemisphere. But the truth was gates at Eastville had been falling for years. When I started going we had about 16,000 for most home games. The last game at Eastville was around 3,448 of which I was one

Royalblue states a good case. The only thing I'd disagree on is that we didn't mess up at Eastville, we didn't own it. The owners were never going to sell it to us because they received a hell of a good retainer for greyhound racing, and when it finally went we couldn't afford to buy it because as usual we had no wealthy backer. Anytime you have to relocate to Twerton to do anything you've messed up... As for Socrates, the limit of his ambition is obviously league 1. You might as well support Forest Green if that's the case. Seriously, we need an abstract plan for the Premiership....however we need a serious plan for League One in the next 1-3 years, the Championship in the next 2-6 years and if FFP results in 20 clubs suffering relegation, at whatever point we end up in the Premiership we can deal with that when all hell has already broken loose...

Wrong. There is no limit of ambition for my club. I'm Rovers through and through so to say I might as well support FG is way off the mark and disrespectful. I've lived here and supported Rovers all my life. My point is we've been predominantly a league 2 club for nearly 20 years so aiming for a premier league stadium whilst putting the finances of our club in to massive trouble in my opinion isn't the was forward and never has been. Ever heard of the saying trying to run before you can walk ?
