I don't think this community is very good at appreciating others thoughts. 'IMO' gets used a lot but the point raised often wanders down an argument path because the opinion bit gets ignored. There was a very bad spell of posters relentlessly trying to prove a point by dragging up old threads, that was tedious. The problem being that others felt inclined to do the same iot disprove the point at hand. Many new members get ignored. The forum struggles too look forwards, rather like our club! We still get many threads which include references to past managers, players, past form and stats. These references are attached to the here and now which I find odd. Personally, I find the swing of 3 wins equalling promotion and 3 defeats equalling doom a little repetitive and boring. So the list of things that shouldn't be allowed on a Bristol Rovers forum currently looks like this: - Jokes - Disagreement - The history of Bristol Rovers So the future of the forum looks like this: Poster 1 - "Bristol Rovers have a match fixture against Plymouth Argyle this Saturday". Poster 2 - "Yes. They do". Poster 3 - "I hope to attend this match". Poster 1 - "Please don't get too caught up in the future, Poster 3. It might never happen. We try to only focus on the knowable present here at GasChat". Poster 3 - "Sorry". Poster 2 - "Ground breaking". Yes that's better? Hopefully you realise my post was an attempt to explain why people may have left. I couldn't give 2 fcuks what gets posted but some of it is tedious.

I think the current unpleasant atmosphere began after the mods were forced to step in due to personal threats etc., which solved the immediate problem. However some posters on here saw this as an opportunity to attempt to further moderate the forum and try to impose their own standards. Banter and humour should no longer be tolerated according to these posters lest it detract from their self-importance. The posters guilty of humour unaware that their attempts to bring a smile or lift the mood had caused such upset, decided that as their contributions were so unwelcome perhaps they should abstain or leave. As a result of the above we now have a forum where posters don’t feel comfortable to post and some just don’t anymore. In short the forum has become a less happy place because of a few posters impatience. I personally love the banter on here it helps make the forum a good place to be, what I hate are people who think their opinions and views are more important than others

Rich Blimey...... You just got back from the Galapagos Islands? I find this a bizarre thread. Someone has stated (cant be bothered to troll back to identify whom) that there is not much going on with the club and hence there is not a lot to talk about. Really? The vision of a new ground is in tatters The level of indebtedness is 4 to 5 times higher than 2008 We have been relegated out of the pro leagues and now struggling to re-establish ourselves We have borrowed a huge amount at Wonga interest rates We have no scouting system Nothing to debate there then. But I tell you what, lets guess the gate, or argue about Bert who did not make it in 1883. Worst of all lets be offended if any of this is pointed out Re: debating, I think people may have realised that however much we 'debate' a topic it makes sod all difference. This place was always about the comedy. Now Ras and Hugo have gone and Lord Sugar has stoped posting I don't know what the USP is for this place. Sad times.

For you it may be about the comedy, for me it is about being part of a gashead community where we can talk all things Rovers. If I'm being brutally honest the comedy aspect gets a bit annoying at times to be honest. There are some people I see on here who just seem to want to post random jokey crap on here all the time, I don't get why they would come on here to do that to be honest but that is their prerogative and I just try to ignore that. I like hearing others opinions and debating with them. Surely that is the whole point of a football team forum? Also sometimes you get the odd bit of gossip on here and I don't really use twitter or the OS so this is my main port of call for finding out news and information.

Personal opinion. It was a mistake to set up a separate forum from the Alternative after the demise of the so called official forum. I never understood why the bulk of fans, who populate this and the Alternative, needed two forums. Some of the reasons at the tine I thought spurious and this has been born out. But its not life and death is it? If you don't mind me asking, why did you believe there was no need for 2 forums and is your opinion still the same now?

I personally experienced the degree to which the divide and rule technique has been employed to dilute the impact of a substantial fan based initiative. In whatever form that maybe. My opinion is that this point is more important now than it was over the last fiftenn years. We are, as a club, a breath away from absolute financial disaster, in my opinion Then what?

Well... I was never on the OF and I don't post on the AF. I wasn't into forums but then I was pleased to find Gaschat when facing the horror of life in the Conference. I did look at the other place but it didn't seem much fun. How much I post on here tends to vary, not because of things people say but probably just because of how much loose time I get or how prompted I feel by events. I don't take it too seriously; I like the jokes but also serious football chat and the chance to vent frustrations when all is not well, on or off the pitch. It's also nice to know more about what's going on at the club - rumours and all.
I'd certainly miss this place if it was gone. I hope that members can not feel so annoyed or disrespected by others and just take it all with a pinch of salt. It's better to have somewhere to chat about the club etc. than not to have anywhere - especially for those of us who don't live in Bristol and don't see a Gashead from one match to the next.
Chin up, chaps and chicks, it's only discussion and it would be almost comically ridiculous if we really couldn't manage to bear one another's company enough to talk about football, when it's the one thing we all have in common.

Who you calling a chick! Oh lawks, I could be in trouble from that lawyer with the fringe who reported a man for saying he liked her picture. I was going for alliteration, that's my only defence. I realise I should not have used a sexist term like "chicks" and will undertake character reassignment therapy asap. In the meantime, may I offer my sincere apologies to sisters everywhere along with a suitable alliterative alternative to 'chicks'. How about "chuffs"? Will that do?
