Might this game be Lockyer's 100th league game for us?

Well 700 would be a decent following When you say it is a hard place to get to if you are going by car or coach its motorway all the way But it's 3 and a half hours of motorway..

I know we are the mighty Bristol Rovers, but it's worth pointing out that Morecambe are above us in the table, and after a disappointing result last night, they are going to be bang up for this game. I'm expecting a very tough match. I wish I could be there but Saturday work plus 2 year old child + living 4 hours from Bristol = very little football at the moment. I've pencilled in York away for my next game ....... only problem is it's not until April 30th!

Gets much easier when they're old enough to break it to you that they actually hate football. And much cheaper (we just chucked him out).

How old was HTY when you took him to his first match?

It gets easier when they are old enough to come to games. But more expensive. I know, but I can't wait! How old was HTY when you took him to his first match? He was about five and a half. I planned it ahead. Got seats in the Dribuild for the best view. Emailed Nick Day to have his name read out. Went to the YP shop for some penny sweets. Bought him a water bottle in the club shop. Got in early so he could get his program signed by the players warming up. Took plenty of healthy snacks so he didn't get hungry or restless. Took the tablet so he could play games up to KO and at HT. In short, I did everything I could to make sure it was a day to remember in the hope he'd get hooked. We've hardly missed a home game together since.

My first Rovers game was when I was 8, but I had seen plenty of non league games at Bath, Yeovil, Frome, Clandown, Paulton, Welton etc first, so I had been schooled! My Dad took a bit of convincing to take me and my older brother to see the Gas, but we won over in the end, and after that first game v Chester in '87 (Bruno nabbed a late brace to rescue a point) we were all hooked.

When to go to your first match - thought this was interesting reading. My 6 yr old is the only one wearing a Rover's shirt at the Saturday morning football in The Home Counties surrounded by Barcelona, Chelsea, Arse and Liverpool shirts, although when he falls over and acts the clown no one is surprised (is he fulfilling his genetic destiny or have I inflicted this on him with a shirt?) One lad wearing MK Dons, although took me a while to work out what it was and even then not sure how I feel. Haven't taken the boy to see Rovers yet, 10 minutes of highlights on the inter web are enough (why is that man dressed as a Monkey? (Hartlepool) - "oh, we've got a Pirate that's better than that"). Intrigued by proper adults (sic) playing in the same shirt as him and that Bristol is where he goes to see his Grandparents. Not sure when to take the plunge but the tips above are helpful. Nick Day a great idea - could save him from being a Chelsea fan, peer pressure and all that.

I went to Clandown school! Shame Clandown folded, they had a tidy little ground and club.

Also, I was psychologically prepared for having to leave early which I think also helped. I did everything I could to mitigate that, but I'd accepted it was likely so I was pretty relaxed about him enjoying/hating it which I'm sure made it better for him.

there is a pub outside the ground called the hurley flyer but i seem to recall they only serve beer if your eating, the better option is the william mitchell couple hundread meters up the road, weatherspoons is just over a mile down the road into town...UTG
