Until he threw in the towel the problem was who was going top score the goals if he wasn't playing? Although there's a danger we're now in a similar position should MT leave and not replaced as he seems our only regular scorer this season. He didn't throw in the towel. He gave an interview that got people's backs up. Why don't the rest of our team get the same stick? They are all responsible for our relegation. He was our best player along with smudger. He was different that's all. It was a silly interview but that was it. He was our best player by far. He's said since he's left that he understands why fans dislike him but still says it's the worst time of his career and still respects us. Building a team around him was probably wrong, but you can't say he wouldn't be good in this team! Talented player

no but ha also didn't do much for us in that crap season, in fact if you look up egotistical vain money grasping waste of natural talent up club slagging waste of space knob it simply points you to jj Apart from the 15 goals. Would you........................ Not a chance in hell would I have him back. The first season Ward signed him he was immense,an excellent all action midfielder who, along with a couple of other players, kept the Rovers up. After that big pay rise and contract and, with Rovers in free fall, the man went missing virtually every game. He was a total disgrace to himself and Bristol Rovers. He couldn't get booked quick enough every game! That said,I welcomed the signing of the man, although disagreed with the chase by Ward to get him. I couldn't believe the change in the man. I think that's why many have a problem with him more than the others in the squad. The extremes of Otoole as a player in the two seasons he was at Rovers were unbelievable.

When teams do well, players like JJOT help enable the team to push on. They provide that bit of quality.
When teams are struggling, players like JJOT back away, separate themselves from the challenge, decide they're bigger and better than it etc. etc.
It is the second scenario which explains why JJOT has never gone on to be, nor ever will be, a top class player outside of the lower end of the Football League. I'd much rather have the long-term desire and work ethic of this team than the short term quality of JJOT. Every day of the week.

I always thought Lines didn't have much natural ability at the start of his career, but I was impressed by his application and that's what I think got him a career in football IMO. If he is now a JJOT there is only one way he can go I think. Maybe a change back in attitude is required?

I thought at the end of last season Lines was fantastic alongside Mansel, you just wonder if the pairing of Lines & Mansel would work again this season as Lines & Sinclair clearly doesn't work.
The fear now is Lines will move on in January and then show us he does have what it takes at this level.

He was different that's all. He had a non-promotion release clause in his contract. The second it seemed unlikely we would get promoted his performances (particularly away from home) were noticeably poorer. You could see from his body language he had given up. I have no problem with the interview he gave. It was refreshingly honest if a little naive. He lacked any real "fight" in a season we limped out of the football league, that's why I don't hold him in high regard. He defines "luxury player" in League 2.

Well he would score from midfield which we need. Would be more creative in midfield, and as we are playing well he would be on top form. You can see that's happening at Northampton.

It seems that it is always JJ Otoole who is always the player singled out as responsible for the clubs demise. Is it because he was the most high profile?. Was he really that bad? Well he didn't look like the guy we had on loan the previous season, but then again nor did any of the other players. Did he really not care or did he just lose interest because he was in a terrible side with terrible tactics?. The guy has his own demons and he does himself no favours off the field, but I don't blame him any more than anyone else for the relegation. Water under the bridge as they say and I can't ever see him pulling a rovers shirt on again

Water under the bridge as they say and I can't ever see him pulling a rovers shirt on again In my opinion, like I have said really, he is singled out more primarily because he was a total opposite to the player we witnessed the season before. Add to that a massive weekly wage and contract, the last thing a Rovers supporter needed was to see the saviour and star man down tools, go missing and deliberately get himself booked. The excuses being made for the man eg. Playing in a bad side, tactics etc,etc....what is all that about? Never should a footballer use that as a reason for anything. It just appitamises what they really are about. But water under the bridge. It really was a shame he turned like he did as he was worshipped, literally.
