Excellent crowd numbers for both recent home games and I'm hoping that a combination of results and performance will encourage the extra few thousand to keep coming.
The issue has been raised before, but I don't recall a proper answer being given as to why so many seats remain empty in the South Stand. I didn't count, but there was well over 100 and probably many more empty seats in the South Stand on Saturday, despite the usual "all seats sold out" notices.
Some have suggested complimentary tickets not taken up and there seems to be an additional sterile zone adjacent to away fans, but neither fully explains the mystery of the empty seats.
Any explanation?

Not sure this is the best place to ask this question but I've often wondered why we never turned over the South Stand to the away supporters and open up the whole of the terracing to home fans. Is there a segregation issue or simply keeping covered seats for home fans?

There's supposed to be 12 columns of seats segregation area in the south stand, which is why you get those empty seats to the right of the segregation tablecloth thing. But v. Orient there was a load more seats empty for some reason.
Not sure why we need the 12 columns, to be honest. Istm there's often fewer rows than that in other stadiums. Also, with the limited number of seats in the ground, istm, there could be a much better use of the seats we do have. Istm a small tent next to the away end might work well, then we can take the whole South Stand.

Is there a segregation issue or simply keeping covered seats for home fans? We did v (iirc) Alfreton, last year. So it is possible. (Of course, they didn't want that many seats.)

And having the whole of the East terrace further improved the atmosphere IMO. I did wonder whether there was some rule about making seats and terrace available to away fans, but the Alfreton fixture and evidence from elsewhere suggests there is not. I know the temporary Guinness stand was added on the West side a number of years ago, but am I imagining that we (or Bristol Rugby) did extend the South Stand further over for one season?

I know that at the last 2 games people I know with season tickets brought extra people with them and ended up having to sit in different areas.
The club will swap ST seats for a different area and then try to 're-sell "empty" ST seats.
This is not always possible.
I'm not saying they couldn't do better at selling the empties but as most fans seem to be so anti the tent maybe it's just not worth the admin for a small amount of seats that no one really wants.
I have to add that a great many of us like the south stand. It's covered, seated and cheap. It has a good family feel to it with many younger kids and I think you will find all of us SS regulars would be very angry if we were turfed onto an uncovered terrace in the corner to make room for a few hundred travelling fans!
Leave our stand alone!!

Not uncommon to see scenes like City at Reading breaking out in the South Stand

I sit in the South Stand and would be p!ssed if I had to be moved to the away terrace. I don't see how it is a problem at the moment?

I'm often a part of the south stand massive when I take my (nearly ) 5yr old lad . Couldn't get seats on sat as sold out so had to go in family enclosure , but when you've got a 4yr old who can't see over the wall at the front it's a bit of a problem ! My mate who has season ticket in the south stand text me during game to say there were seats free I front of him..... So we sneaked in at half time. Naughty or what ?!

Always thought the south stand should be the family section. Worse language from the blackthorn than you'd expect from most of the paltry followings in the away terrace.
Spose the kids wouldnt be very close to the tunnel/players though

Not that I condone your subterfuge, but you prove my point Yatton. There is no reason to say that stand seats are sold out when they are not! Whilst there are various permutations the club could explore - and we wouldn't want to upset Hugo now, would we - it seems to me that selling the seats we have available is pretty fundamental. An answer from the club would be welcome.

I also agree the south stand is a better area for the kids but I don't think it's big enough for all the SS brigade and the family enclosure regs whilst still giving any provision to seat away fans.

Be okay if the SS Brigade leave their tanks at home.

I asked at the last home game at the ticket office has the south stand been sold out, they said all seats were sold, I asked again are you sure and they replied that there were no seats available, again the second home in a row there were at least a 100 seats available.

Maybe they give away swathes to local groups who don't show up?! Wouldn't make much sense on the holiday games, though.

Might be a question for our Fans Liaison Officer?
