Used to go to merrywood with the quarters painted on my haversack in the 70s. Still live in knowle so most people who matter know im gas. Knowle.stockwood.ashton.bemmy.and briz all make up the south bristol brigade who have clocked up many many miles on the road. bedminster/ Sh1!heads but a few gas here and there.. similar story to you gasfred,, There are Gasheads in Bemi , lots of us and there's even a Gashead pub and yes the landlord does wear his quarters while he's working. There is a divide because Ashton gates always been south of the River and we've always been north but there's loads of Gas down south and loads of sh** up North.

Bloody social mobility. With hire purchase, easy bank loans and info on life up north on the internet, they started to move north. It's too late now, nobody listened to me at the time.

I have lived in Portishead and Clevedon and can safely say both very much sheed areas. There are more sheeds in northern areas than gasheads in southern areas of Bristol IMO. I consider Kingswood the heartland of Rovers fans. A big difference in Portishead now compared to when I was growing up there. We are still outnumbered but there was only a handful of us on school back in my day! Now you get players of both teams living there

Yeah I know lots of both live there. Used to aee Harrold there quite a bit, Marcus Stewart etc. Portishead changed too much for my liking. A bit over developed. A lot of people seem to like it there though.

North and south divide is not really geographically correct, I see our hotbed as East or North East Bristol. Growing up in Eastville in the 60's and 70's in particular, you didn't find too many City fans in school. That was then and I think the geographical divide is now no more to a reference to the stadium location than the area where fans reside. I was brought up in Stockwood too in 60's and 70's. Always was a very heathy contingent of Gas there in those days. Where do you meet for beer before games?

Although I live in Hanham now I lived in Stockwood up to the age of 16 (then left for 14 years in the RAF). There were plenty of Rovers fans in the 'wood in the 60's / 70's and a few of us still meet at the ground each home game. for a pint in the supporters club bar. I live in Hanham now. A Stockwood boy from the 60's and 70's

(Ive actually got to come home soon and mix and talk and work with them )

I grew up in Whitchurch, and my junior school was pretty much all either City or Man Utd fans, apart from me and one other kid! The situation wasn't much different at Chew Valley where the were only a small handful of Gasheads and mainly Sheeds.
I remember one time when Lewis Carey and Scott Murray came in for an assembly and they asked "any Gasheads?" and I was the only one to proudly shout "YES!!!"
