Friendlies tell you everything you need to know about players and formations. The result isn't that important. What matters is we peak against Grimsby. Sounds like we were playing quite well.

Hope we can defend dead corners as the side seems small from what has been said, height I mean. Shouldn't be booing EH. New start for them all I would have hope

Results means nothing and would have said the same if we won tonight.remember being fooled into thinking we would have a good season on the back of the Reading pre season victory last year.Bring on the Grimsby.

It was all Harrolds fault. Beardsley would have buried that header that Parkes missed.

Pleased with the performance tonight, played some tidy stuff at times and the attitude of the players is great.
Taylor is different level. White & Monkhouse look a bit short of fitness. Gosling impressed when he came on and had good set-piece delivery.

Good to here fanboy.any news about Turley tonight? I saw him in the west stand, so I can only presume talks/medical checks went well. Was a little unsure but having just checked his twitter, it was certainly him. As for the game, I was impressed - not sure the result was fair but that doesn't matter in pre-season. Fluid style, even Parkes was passing the ball about which was nice to see. Taylor and Sinclair particularly impressed, very hardworking and Taylor's goal showed a natural instinct in front of goal which we have missed for a while. We created a lot and should have at least scored two A couple of concerns however. When playing 5-3-2 (3-5-2, whatever) we were particularly susceptible to the counter attack and we left a lot of space in midfield. This was mainly because Sinclair etc. were pressing high up the pitch, left a gap in the middle. Mansell stabilised the midfield a little bit in that sense come the second half. Thought Leadbitter was a little weak tonight against his opponent, looked good going forward however. I'm sure someone will cover it in more detail - those were my initial thoughts.

A good outing, particularly when we were 1-0 up until changes kind of killed the flow a little which you'll get in friendlies. Obviously Taylor and Sinclair stood out, I think Matty Taylor will be the star of the season, he really to me looks the real deal, good interlinking play, gambles on chances in the box, could have scored a hat-trick tonight.
I'm not going to predict we'll have a good season, it's still a wait and see for me, but I'm encouraged by our play. Still three players short, however.

Quietly impressed tonight.
Very positive about White (he'll score a few), Sinclair (Geez that guy can run), Leadbitter (Top prospect), Parkesy (Huge improvement in fitness and general play)Taylor (looks quality) and the whole team performance appeared structured with good shape and a togetherness. I must add Ellis looked sharp forcing their defence to constantly foul him after coming on.
Early days - Yes, General prospects - Looking good.

Great to hear a lot of positives coming out of the game tonight. Great stuff. I think with the added additions it wont take long for us to look ship shape and reckon we could really build a solid foundation to push up the league. No cakewalk expected but beginning to believe we can do ourselves proud. Roll on next week. Next week!!

My concerns last night were the number of times we were turned over for possession and found ourselves with all our centre mids the wrong side of the ball, leaving open space for Coventry to run at our back line. Ok the back line dealt with it well most occasions, but on another day that lack of positional discipline will cost us.
Also, we seem to be lacking height and power to defend corners and set pieces in our box. I'm sure set pieces will be a big thing in this league.
Yes there are a lot of positives already rightly expressed above, fitness, work rate, good possession, individuals like Taylor, Sinclair etc and also Brunty back and a fit Parkes, but we've got work to do to correct some issues to make us more solid when we get turned over.
I hope this is sorted quickly otherwise I can see this compromising dreams of hitting the ground running and getting off to the flyer we need

Yep, generally a good display against Coventry, Sinclair and Taylor stood out for me. Tempo and passing was good, more positive and attacking but as has been said, we were wide open a few times and looked pretty disorganised after the subs whereas looked a tighter unit in 1st half. Felt sorry for Ellis getting booed, still not sure why, he put in a good effort although was a bit all over the place (as ever) but I think we do need him. I'd have like to see us run with the ball a bit more as well. Definitely better to watch and felt like we may have a few more goals in us. Bring on the real thing next week
