Long may it continue i do honestly keep forgetting about our change in fortunes , I think it's because it still really hasn't sunk in! I still keep thinking it's all too good to be true too and when people say to me things like " what about Rovers then ?!!" I find myself a bit lost for words and saying things like "let's wait and see and it doesn't mean we're going to be successful". Obviously it increases our chances of doing better but in my 30 years supporting Rovers we've always been a certain way and this goes completely against that grain. Im really impressed with our new board so far though and it's gradually starting to sink in and I have got a good feeling about it even if it does all feel a bit weird. Bloody hell 30 years ! Fair play to you mate. I have mentioned on previous posts that I have only had a season ticket the last 3 years and it's been quite an experience to say the least! As great as this news is to all gasheads it must be even sweeter to long term supporters like yourself. One of the older guys that I sometimes stand with in the blackthorn end was close to tears when wael gave his half time speech as he kept saying he couldn't believe it as this kind of thing doesn't happen to rovers! Great feeling! Hopefully great times ahead!

That made me think, and I've realised that I've been supporting Rovers for about 45 years now. My ambition is to be able to sit in the new stadium, knowing that our future is now safe.

Henbury gas, daft question but did your avatar used to be a black cat with sunglasses on? I know it's a bit of a random question but it's eating away at me! Yes, sadly she is no longer with us, but she was only 20

Or the 1/- (one shilling) transfer into the North Enclosure from the Muller Rd End.
Been a regular for 56 years now - this time is as optimistic as I can ever remember. Hope the Stadium starts soon, in fact I can't wait.
Went out last night with a City fan & even he was tempted to say he thought things were looking up for us!

UTG RTID I am about the same, I think this may be my 57th season. I can recall, as us old farts do, going to the game on one of the "special buses" that picked us up, then took a circular route picking up supporters on the way. Paid the child's admission, a pasty at half time, and return home on the special, all for two and six (12.5p) in new money. God I must be old.....................

How many people remember the Ashmans Lorry? Yes I do and the day Chelsea came and caused £365,000 worth of damage to local shops and streets (which is still a record today)

The old football buses - used to be parked all round Eastvllie park down Fishponds Road and Muller Road I started about 60 years ago. 1st game sitting on my dad's shoulders by the pylon at the Muller Road end of the north enclosure it was rammed. Then standing on the Muller Road bank going in passed the greyhound kennels before graduating to the Tote end. Watching the reserves on Wednesday afternoons. Drinking in the Merchants Arms before the game - even Alfie Biggs popping in the lounge for a pint of guinness on his way to the game.

Paid the child's admission, a pasty at half time, and return home on the special, all for two and six (12.5p) in new money. God I must be old..................... It would be interesting to know if there is anyone around who stood on the north terrace when it was a covered shed ,before the north stand was built....anyone out there ? I unfortunately do not know the first game i went to. I know a few things about those early games ,the ground was pretty full and the south stand was still in full use ,i had to be lifted up to sit on the perimeter wall in the north enclosure to see . I was always oblivious to who the opponents were and didnt care i was there to watch rovers.(prob 73 or 74 ) Then there was a gap of not going and when i returned as a twelve year old with a friend we stood in the south enclosure now a sad affair what with it just being a few rows of uncovered terrace the stand having burned down. The tote end was dwindling and mostly silent ,a new rowdy lot appeared on the north enclosure near the away end so we migrated there. Eastville was on its knees now ,parts of the muller road bank were taped off as unsafe and atmosphere was hard to come by on such an open ground. Then it happened....crummy as it was eastville was no longer our home. I missed the first season at trumpton ,but soon got out there. Rovers were dying ,and in my mind only one thing saved the club. A terrible thing . Rovers were desperately trying to avoid the drop and failing badly ,relegation would probably have ended rovers back then. Then it happened,in the centre of the pitch kenny Hibbits leg was broken .It changed everything. There was shock at first , then it happened the players the crowd almost collectively thought " thats it ,we've been pushed too far...so f**k you footballing world....if you want a fight you're gonna f**king get one sunshine" ..and the backs to the wall mentality was born. The team thrashed league leaders Sunderland 4-0 i think ,who didnt know what had hit them. A run of win after win took rovers clear of the drop into the following years playoff final then to the league title the following year. Then came the mem....an open wet windswept clubhouse terrace and a terrace and large stand...the west stand wasnt open yet and nothing at the south end...absolute crap...but rovers were back in Bristol . So a new stadium...yes we f**king deserve it ! Please excuse the curse words....sometimes nothing else fits.

Blimey you'd have to be an old timer to remember the pre North stand era, as when an started watching Rovers in the 70's the stand seemed to have been built for years already by then?
I wonder how many fans in total still follow Rovers from the Eastville era?

I think a tiny section of the roof remained between the tote end and the north stand.

I was born 74 but was at eastville a lot as a young un, it seemed a lot better to me than most make out but probably because I was young. Beating Leicester in the cup, playing arsenal at home beating city 1-0 (but also losing), but probably seemed bigger and better as I was so young. Being 15/16 when we were in play offs at twerton and winning the league was a great age I think for that to happen, never forget the excitement.. Don't go that often these days for different reasons that most have stated but am going to a few in the next few weeks. GLORY HUNTER :-)
