My obsession began as a lad in Weston-super-Mare, at the time I grew up on a large council estate called the Bournville in the 1970's. Believe it or not everyone was GAS, it's all changed now and there are more City fans on the estate but Weston still has quite large pockets of Rovers fans. The next door neighbour lad was a GASHEAD, and he used to babysit me. As I got older I went up on the train and got off at Stapleton Road and it just felt right. You would know The Squad then? Growing up as a Rovers fan in Weston in the 80s and 90s, I heard many stories about their escapades. I heard they used to run special trains up to Rovers from Weston in the 50s, and as you say the Bournville used to be all Gas. I went to Windwhistle School on the Bournville in the 80s and unfortunately everyone was either Everton or Liverpool in those days, with one Rovers (me) and one City (my best mate). Both Bristol teams have good followings from here, it's good to see loads of Rovers young 'uns snub the Premiership and support their local team. I chose Rovers because of my Dad. Used to say I supported Everton but felt nothing when they won the league in 1987. My mate went to Wembley to watch City v Mansfield and I instinctively wanted City to lose. My first football kit was blue and I knew my parents were Gas so it must have been ingrained in to me. I loved watching the 3-3 Bristol derby draw on tv and asked my Dad to take me to Twerton. Rovers 2 Chester 2, Oct 1987. Half a coke in the Full Moon, playing pool with a load of grizzlies who were very friendly to a 10 year old going to his first game, Greasy Joe, Twerton Chippy, standing on the Bath End being amazed how close I was to the goal net, looking over at the Popular Side wondering how they started the songs, loving the kit and before I knew it Gary Penrice was my new hero instead of Gary Lineker. I loved the passion of the Rovers fans. I knew City had a better stadium and more money. I knew we weren't even playing in our home city, but in Weston you have a choice of two local teams.....when you look at it really it is a choice of one, as I was never ever going to support that lot. Even my Mum despises them.

We used to take quite a few on the train, they never used to collect the tickets as there was so many. Even Rovers fans thought we were away fans at times.

I chose blue because of my old man and his old before him. Watching rovers reminds me of my father who Is my best mate and I love more than anything, and when the sad day comes that he passes, the closest I could ever feel to him would be watching the gas. However, the nutter is still live and kicking and long may that continue.
