Did Steve Lansdowne actually say this, or has it become a part of our collective memory through repetition?
I've been trying to find the source myself but no luck yet. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't recall the source, but istm he did say it, but he said it in response to sheeds whining about our stadium going ahead, and the Ashton Vale one getting stuck, so it was more in the context of 'soon we'll be making progress and you can stop whining about Rovers all the time,' rather than 'I'm going to obliterate Rovers from existence.' Of course, being a sheed, he should really know that they'll never stop whining about Rovers.

I am not quite sure why it matters what he said or when he said it. Sadly the guy has shown that whilst he knows how to build a very succesful Financial Services business he hasn't really got a clue when it comes to running a football club or how to build the infrastructure of one. in 2009 Bristol City were 10th in the Championship and he sold shares in his Company to invest over £40 miillion in the club and its new ground. 1n 2016 after investing his money , they are 19th in the Championship and they have a ground which may have been spruced up very well but is in every respect an old fashioned set up. The infrastructure remains unchanged with poor vehicular access and inadequate parking. The facilities are such that its main source of income is only ever going to be football. A modern football stadium needs to move with the times and become multi-fuctional. With his business hat on , he would never invest over £40 million in a project that would give him negative return but that is effectively what he has done. So if he suggests a share purchase that will earn you a fortune then take his advice by all means but when it comes to football - take no notice.

That is correct, remember him saying it on Twentyman,he said more or less, now we have Ashton vale no one will go on about Rovers anymore,in relation to his own fans moaning we were getting a new Mem build
