....to support our local clubs. Ok, the rivalry in our fantastic city is quite intense, but at least we care about our Bristol clubs.
I'm off to Brentford tomorrow on the train from Temple Meads and in the past I've despaired at seeing the number of Bristolians getting on trains to watch Spurs, Chelsea, Leeds, Liverpool etc. It's soul destroying as their glory hunting undoubtedly contributes to the lack of progress of our Bristol clubs.
I watched a Chelsea game on tv recently and saw a 'Bristol & Bath Blues' flag - what are they thinking?!
We can all hold our heads high, we may have won sod all between us in the grand scheme of things, but we support our Bristol clubs, and being in a two club city is something rather special...
Around 25,000 people watch football games in Bristol regularly and that ain't too shabby compared to some cities and towns.
Stay proud and although there is obviously serious rivalry I would have to begrudgingly admire back to back promotions if you do it.
Can't believe I'll go berserk at Brentford if we stay up mathematically tomorrow (depends on MK and Charlton results) - sounds a bit pathetic but at least it's because it's my local club....

Yeah compared to Liverpool who have Liverpool, Everton and tranmere, which is about 80000+ Bristols attendances at the moment are pretty dire

Largest cities after London Birmingham – 1,073,045 Leeds – 751,485 Sheffield – 552,698 Bradford – 522,452 Manchester – 503,127 Liverpool – 466,415 Bristol – 428,234 Newcastle – 280,177 Sunderland – 275,506 Wolverhampton – 249,470 I guess we'd out scoring counted by number of "home" fans at least two cities above us on that list?

Well, those city limits are pretty meaningless when it comes to actual catchment areas (after all probably over half of all Gasheads live outside BCC). Not that that means Leeds and Bradford would have better figures. Fwiw, both Leeds and Bradford had defunct second teams. If City had been a bit less sh**, they might have got rid of us.

Yes and most of Manchester Utds 'fans' live miles from Manchester and have usually only been there once.

I'd say 25k is pretty good when you consider what's on offer. Good OP. I'd rather see a Ted round here than a plastic prem fan any day. In my boys U8s team he is the only kid out of 25 who actually goes to games. Other than 2 teds, every other kid turns up for training in a prem kit. It's a crying shame.

How about when 40,000 gashead/sh1theads turn up at Wembley ? do they count as gloryhunters ? or are you proud of them for 'supporting' a local club ?

Considering the population and that the nearest football team to Bristol is 25 miles away in wales and the nearest English team is 40 miles away, I would say Bristol football over the years has been poorly supported. That is evidently changing for the good but not surprising that some have travelled many miles to watch `decent` football in better stadiums.

I hope that now we've got a professional set up a fantastic manager and a team to be proud of those floating fans who only go on Boxing Day / Wembley etc will become proud loyal Gasheads who want to go as often as they can. It's in my blood and I love it and I got the Rovers bug in the Twerton years when it was anything but a professional set up and it's stayed with me ( probably greasy joes burgers ) but joking aside I can understand why we have so many floating fans because only the type of people who have got the Ragbag Rovers fighting spirit thing in the past have been sucked in to it and love it and let's face it most people aren't that way inclined.

No doubt both teams have been poorly supported considering Bristol and the surrounding area, but both teams would definitely sellout 21,700 and 27,000 capacity stadiums if they were in the prem IMO.

in fairness, football isnt massive in bristol but the potential is huge,,,am i mad in thinking that both bristol teams are on the up and up and could soon be attracting large crowds in the championship or god forbid the premier league??? its weird but strangely possible
