You can read too much into these things, I suppose, but as Henbury said, he composed it carefully and perhaps there's a message in there. He makes three points that stood out to me:
- he considers it true and justifiable that the team is NH's. Suggesting that the new owners had nothing to do with promotion. Which is true, but he felt he should point it out. - he reports that the new Chairman, unlike the old one, refused his request for a bus tour - the SC members, unlike the "drinkers in Gloucester Road", didn't have the benefit of a "Presidential visit".
It seems that he is a little uncomfortable or finding it difficult to adjust to life under the new owners.

No personal agenda here. Would like to know the SCs thoughts on the crippling loan we were stuck with, the loss of the court case and where they thought we were heading But i guess that was all nasty sainsburys fault and NH was a very nice man who kept us going Spot on, all of this was allowed to go on unquestioned by the Supporters Club and our Fans Directors, no open top bus though and a public display of criticism towards the Chairman. Hypocrisy. I have to say that its pretty difficult to disagree with this. It's somewhat ironic that now the SC have been given freedom to speak freely, they use it to turn on those that set them free from the oppression of the old regime. Whilst I understand the frustration felt by those who give their time freely to support the club I'm not sure a bus parade for finding 3rd is the most pressing matter. I'm more interested in whether our Fans Directors are now more welcome, active and informed. Is there a Plan A. (B,C.....etc) Will the SC and other fans groups continue to apply the same amount of pressure and accountability to the New Owners. Heaven knows Nick Higgs made mistakes, but in my humble opinion so did we in allowing it to go on unchallenged. The team that got us promotion WAS Nicks squad and Nicks manager. That has to be acknowledged. Would we have done it without the boost of new owners? Who knows? Finally, I would say that I hope this is an indication that the SC have finally got some balls and are going to be a proper independent supporters group. One that is willing to challenge the owners and raise issues vocally and publicly. That's a SC I feel I could rejoin. I hope it's not personal and driven by a feud with the Chairman. Yes, the SC should have stood up before instead of being a lap dog to prop up the board but we can't now criticize them for becoming what they should have been all along. Personally the jury is still out for me on the new owners and so it seems on the new SC. However, while I don't agree with Jim on this one I'm glad he is finally speaking out.

Yep, it sounds like the start of the classic friction between a 'community club' and a 'successful business' type model for a lot of modern teams. Istm that a lot of this thing is inevitable as we go forward, if we do become more business oriented and less 'rag bag.' Both models have their good points, and I'd like to think we do become successful and still maintain a lot of the family club atmosphere, but it's a difficult balancing act, probably. But, otoh, I really like the idea, and it's a big change for us, that coming second (or third, or even seventh) isn't necessarily a triumph. But, otth, I suspect that there were more practical considerations for the lack of a bus tour, than the simple 'we haven't won anything yet,' like giving everyone a well-deserved, longer break.

I just hope that any future criticisms are directed at a less queer pinch point. I reiterate that absolutley the volunteers should be thanked. How that is done is up to those that matter. It would be interesting to know what Jim expected or what previous thanks they received from NH and the previous board for context I do wonder what more may have happened behind the scenes. In Jims earlier notes he say he met WAQ and SH and they seemed decent honest sorts (to paraphrase) I have seen no mention of the SC thanking the club for sprucing up the bars or trying to improve the match day facilities All seems a bit of a skewed view point for whatever reason especially given this has been written in the aftermath after a period of reflection and not in the heat of the moment

Don't get me wrong, but i don't trust the new owners anymore than the previous owners, but actions speak louder than words and at the moment i don't "See" a lot of "Action" from the family Maybe in the fullness of time we will get to know about all these so called background activities but i'm not so sure we will They have only been here five minutes. It may not work out, but Mr Al-Qadi is a suucesful investment banker, not some fly by night microwave salesman and seems to be assembling a professional team at the club Even if we fall, we will have survived a bit longer than the oblivion we were heading to before hand What i'm trying to say is we may never get to know the in's & outs of a gnat's ass like some people want just the end product A new Stadium and premier football would be a good start

Am I the only one who thinks the new guys wanted the season to end as fast as possible ? maybe as they have a lot of work to do on the stadium and such or maybe they just wanted a holiday ? This is a huge change in how this club will be run, some things a lot better and some I expect will not be so good. I liked the idea of local guys running things with blue and white blood but in all honesty they were never rich enough to do things that we all dream of, it's just a simple fact of life, money will always rule. Best we all get used to the new ways because now money owns us we will never have the sway to change things, nobody knows any of these guys hence nobody will have the inside angle on things. All in all I expect in the sort term things will be better, long term, nobody knows.

But, otth, I suspect that there were more practical considerations for the lack of a bus tour, than the simple 'we haven't won anything yet,' like giving everyone a well-deserved, longer break. My impression is they are doing a decent job of blending the two models by being business like and professional but at the same time directly embracing the entire fanbase rather than channelling it through a group of committed volunteers who in my view never really represented the totality of the fanbase or wielded any substantial influence. I dont think many would say they don't make a useful contribution to the club, but they aren't running it and never were going to. I am very much with Hugo's "the jury is out" view but love the fact we aren't just doing what we always did as that is a very clear sign of progress we have all been crying out for. I do wonder if the share scheme is clouding the issue and ultimately doing everyone a disservice as it gives a slightly false expectation of influence and has been treated in a disingenuous way for too long by previous "regimes", but in reality isn't going to be a substantial influence in what appears to be emerging as the new model for BRFC. Maybe time it was paid up?

If you volunteer for something, you do it because you want to do it, because you believe what you are doing will benefit others, you don't need recognition for doing it, the work you do is, in itself, it's own reward. If Jim was unhappy that other volunteers were being taken for granted, then that is something to be brought up privately between the concerned parties. The- what appears to be- little dig at 'drinkers on Gloucester Road' is a wanky, snidey thing to say.
As for the team being 'Nick Higgs team' , I suspect- at least I hope- that NH was referring to the fact that he was still a Rovers supporter, rather than claiming some credit for the promotion.

Wow, you can tell it's the close season with this thread. Don't know enough of the background to this but having supported Rovers since the 60s can remember the time when the SC under Eric Godfrey and the club fell out big time. It went on for years and did the club no favours. FWIW it appears that this was a calculated response from the SC following the decision about the lack of a bus tour and a feeling of not being appreciated. I can understand the SC point if view. The celebrations in Gloucester Road were great....for those who were there, those on the p*** and drinkers. For families, fans who had to get back to other places and with other commitments it wouldn't have registered. But I can understand why there wasn't a bus tour and I suspect the whole thing is a sign that the SC and their chairman feels a bit side-lined. Don't know him just as I don't know many others but I do know that if the fans who volunteer to do all the jobs to make the match day experience a good one feel unappreciated that is not good. If we didn't have all those jobs done then in time the club would collapse. You never know what you've got until you haven't got it. So it seems that a few bridges need to be built. I just hope Steve Hamer, Wael and the SC can do that. BRFC is more important than any of them. The SC need to see that as AF has said this is about a new set of business men running it as a business rather than the way it has been run. The SC will have to get used to it and on the whole thank god they did come in with new ideas. But I guess the SC might not like it! Just as we have seen on the field over the past 2 seasons the sum of the parts is greater than all the individual parts. Sort it! UTG!

Not going to read it, it'll just p!ss me off. This is the person who told the media Gasheads didn't want to go to the Derby because it was too violent/scary!
He supposedly represents the supporters? I don't think so!
Get rid of him, or I don't want anything to do with the ''Supporters Club''.
UTG!

The dramatic heading should be changed for a start. Are Rovers really ruled by a 'regime'?? Apologies for that - I think that my wannabe journalist persona revealed itself there!

Wow. Posters having a pop at the volunteers for having an opinion! Whatever next? I'd say the SC chairman is more than entitled to express an opinion on matters tbf. He's entitled to an opinion and should be respected for his hard work, however, where was his opinion and criticism of Higgs when he made mistake after mistake and told lie after lie. I cannot respect the man's opinion when he's happy to say nothing on behalf of the SC and supporters in general whilst the club is run like a dictatorship for years, bumbling from one disaster to another but no bus tour and the toys are well and truly out of the pram. Bizarre! The blokes out of touch I'm afraid and to me he seems threatened that now we may not be 'Ragbag Rovers' anymore, he will be less important. He should apologise to SH. This, this and this. Didnt make a peep as the old board ran this club towards the brink of ruin (whether intentional or not). The SC does a great job with the volunteer aspect, but the powers within have done absolutely nothing to hold the former board to account. Yet use a bus parade to **** on everyone else's parade about the so far ever so impressive new board. This post reeks of bitterness, even down to the part where he only thanks current share scheme members rather rather than all of those that contributed. And I agree with not having a bus parade for 3rd, no need.

FFS Jim is a Gashead through and through and is simply expressing his opinion; I do not particularly agree with him, but WTF. One thing for sure the BRSC have and continue to raise a shed-load of money for the club and that alone gets my full respect;also, occasionally I like the option of being able to use the BRSC coach instead of driving to the way matches.

One things is for certain I suppose. Its either a badly written albeit honest article regarding Jims frustrations or a well written provocation designed to divide opinion and create turbulence. Either way I personally would like to see some more careful consideration before any future release. If, at a time where uniting supporters would seem to be more possible than ever before this is the best we get from a supporters club representatives end of season notes, I would suggest he needs to readjust his focus slightly. SC is only as influential as the body of its members (quiet at the back please) so I see this as a wasted opportunity.

All in all I expect in the sort term things will be better, long term, nobody knows. I feel the same, was it because Wael had more pressing matters to deal with at home ie meeting Ozil or are they just glad to be away from Bristol for a few weeks, apart from the lack of a bus tour what I find a bit odd is we've heard virtually zilch from Wael, SH or DC, it's almost as if the club closed for the summer the day we gained promotion. I find it odd that JC just sat quietly in the corner and let NH almost take the club under now speaks up about our new owners, when really he could have just kept his views to himself, or just said it "was disappointing we didn't have a bus tour to celebrate our promotion". To give any praise to our promotion is an odd one given we were 10th going nowhere shortly after Wael took over and it was the feel good factor which took us to promotion, plus a bit of luck!
