'My understanding' and what more 'evidence' do not go together...........this is just a guess then ? He he Keep trying. My understanding of the budgetary process coincides with Henburys and Roversdrive. Further evidence of a shambles is what occured last Saturday. I hope that helps.

Once the BoD finally had some idea of the financial hit we'd taken from relegation, we saw panic, and the cutbacks being implemented with redundancies etc. You don't have to have insider knowledge to realise that the axe would also have been wielded on "one of the biggest playing budgets in the Conference".

I really feel for Clarke, he was under the impression he would be backed at the start of the summer.
I've said all along I think Clarke is the right man (even with his few faults), however I was concerned when he said about us going straight back up as although I believe he has the ability and ambition in him to acheive this, I feared he would not get enough backing from the board to support this. I don't think we are even close to the top budget in this league.
We will do alright if we get behind Clarke. It's the board that are holding us back though, not Clarke. UTG!

If we are due to receive roughly £750k in transfer money, surely we could budget 25/30 % of this back on strengthening the squad. All DC has signed is a load of average conference players who are probably paid no more in wages than the Barnet ,Gateshead ,Grimsby players are .These clubs operate on a fraction of what we get. £750000 ? Not arguing just wonderinv where this figure came from ? We got undisclosed for Mehew, Beauchamp, Smith and Lambert was about £500000 ? Over several years.

I shook DCs hand at the QnA and wished him good luck. I didn't notice the poisoned chalice under the table, otherwise I would have kicked it over.

I like the bloke, but he really, REALLY needs to stop chopping and changing the side/system and just let it settle. IMO he needs to decide on his favoured formation (3-5-2/4-4-2) and lineup and stick with it for a few games. Obviously the Mildenhall change was forced, but things I don't get from tonight: • Playing a new CB pairing infront of the new GK. • Playing a CB at RB when a natural RB is sat on the bench. • Dropping Brunt when he held the ball up very well on Saturday and helped us keep the ball high up the pitch. • Changing the system to 4-4-2, when we looked very solid in 3-5-2 and probably needed that solidity away at a side who scored 5 on the weekend. He doesn't help himself sometimes. Thats because he is clueless. The same as he was last season. I will never accept he is manager of my club.He is the man who took us to hell Drama queen alert!!!

I was at the game last night and I have to say the performance zapped a lot of my optimism. The first half was like any away game from the last 4-5 years. Nobody showed any confidence or intent on the ball and it meant we just lumped the ball forward to two small strikers who had no chance of getting it down. It was infuriating to watch and you could see DC was tearing his hair out.
Our left hand side is a real worry, particularly the left side of our defence. Brown is a favourite with a lot of people but every team target him and get so much joy, especially when Macca is the guy on the inside of him. Brown is too slow to be a threat going forward and his deliveries are so often very poor - with him in the side a quick winger is going to have a lot of joy.
Despite how poor we were first half, both goals were easily avoidable if we're being honest. Puddy, who was as quiet as a mouse and not very commanding, should have saved the second comfortably and the first came as a result of an awful Brown cross at the other end and Macca being caught out of position. We were better in the second period but still never really created a clear-cut chance; there were a few tame headers on target but nothing that had Graham Stack that worried. I do think there are goals in Taylor and White but they aren't being given the right opportunities to demonstrate their ability. They need through balls and quick counter attacks to finish off but we don't have it in our squad at the moment, which is why I am concerned by DC's admission post-match that we can't afford the winger he wants.
Barnet are a decent side at this level and I think they'll be right up there. Solid and aerially sound at the back, pace out wide and a little and large combo up front. It's not what we want to hear or admit but it's the reality of the situation. Akinde is nothing special as a player, in fact he's pretty poor, but Barnet play to his strengths and up against slow defenders he looks a threat. He thrived on the chants of 'sh*thead' from the fans yesterday as well and conducted himself really well I thought, doing his talking on the pitch.
I don't think we should get carried away and write anything off just yet because we have had a very difficult start to the season. We now have two very winnable looking games coming up and we simply have to get points on the board and, if we stick with a system and get the ball to feet in the final third of the pitch as opposed to lumping it, we give ourselves a chance. We aren't going to be right up there this season though unless we can bring in two good attacking players.

UTG. re Brown, people do like him but just think how much joy the little right winger had last night! He had Browner in his pocket all night. Beat him for pace, in the air, in the tackle. Every 2nd and 3rd ball had barnets name on it.

Sad but expected that people are talking like this after TWO games. Suddenly DC knows * all, come on tbonegas don't be an idiot, he got Salisbury promoted twice. Exaggerated language doesn't help anyone.
Constantly we hear, and say, that we need some stability at this club. 6 managers in 3.5 years. Everyone tells DC at the Q+A that he will be given a fair crack of the whip, yet after TWO games people are forgetting that pretty quickly.
Make no mistake, Barnet will be up there this season. MA is a shrewd manager, and Barnet are more streetwise than us. It was crap last night, but one important quote from DC:
“There was no point in putting long balls up to Jamie White and Matty Taylor as they need balls into their feet. We need players to take responsibility, get on the ball, and get higher up the pitch.”
This is positive. I was worried on Saturday with the long grass and him saying we were creative when we weren't. Last night people questioned why DC's tactics were to lump it up to the forwards. But thankfully this wasn't the case and DC recognises that the football needs to improve.
We have a very difficult start, and that hasn't finished yet. This team has showed they can get the ball down, but with them being new to eachother and the pressure, this might take some time. Things will definitely improve over the coming weeks. Unfortunately, the cut throat attitude of some means that avoiding a loss is paramount. 6 points in the next two games would actually see us sitting near the top, who would of thought!?
FFS I know it was crap last night, but lets get some perspective and at least give the team half a chance. Writing off DC and getting on the players backs will ruin any chance we do have this season, and prove all those pundits who talk about the pressure our fans will put on those players, sadly right.

The trouble is, this season looks to be following the exact same pattern as previous years. From what I have seen, the players we have recruited are pretty underwhelming, with Taylor and White possible exceptions. Before the season, I thought we would do very well to finish above 10th and my opinion hasn't changed.

Whilst i agree with you the criticism is justified of DC for not getting the club where it needed to be at the start of the season. As he knows this has been a criticism of the club the past few years. Its not about results for me at this stage of the season but him just looking completely out of his depth. We are damed if we sit around waiting to see if it works out and damned if we panic. A truely horrible situation for our holidaying dictator.
