Brilliant to see Eliot Richards again and the applause for his goal well deserved. Enjoyed the game, Weston are a friendly little club and I might pop up the road to see them again during the new season. Don't know who the trialist was but he seemed useful. Thought Gos and Monty looked good.

Eliot Richards is now with Newport County. They are away on a tour and he is being allowed to 'get fit' with Weston in the meantime

Enjoyed my first friendly of the season very much. Hartley looks very influential at the back and was shouting instructions and encouragement to the two young'uns either side of him really well. Even when Kilgour/Greenslade made a mistake he was there to pat them on the back and encourage throughout.
Thought Moore looked pretty good, unlucky not to score too but won the penalty. I can see him grabbing a fair few goals this season.
All 4 strikers looked ready to go, Easter was very strong on the ball, looked like he'd been working at the gym all summer. Impressed with James too, some nice touches and unlucky with his shots on goal. Lucas looks a proper finisher, scored his first touch with a perfect strike into the corner and very unlucky with a wonderful first time volley just going over. He's a big lad as well in a similar mold to Gaffney.
Be interesting to see how we do against better opponents like Villa and Swansea. Without looking into the performance too much as it was just a friendly against a Conference South side I'd say we have a good chance of having a good season.

Having watched all 4 friendlies to date this was the best and whilst I accept we were against a Conference South team they played some good football and were probably the strongest team we have played to date. Agree on comments re Hartley, Leads looked strong as did Sinclair, Moore, Easter and Gaffney worked hard taking his goal well. Even Lawerence was comfortable and composed and I thought Greenslade impressed yesterday, he has steadily improved with each outing. The changes at half time didn't impact too much, Brown always adds something, Oli Clarke and Malpas took over in central midfield and totally dominated possession, finally Lucas showed his natural goal scoring ability and I would like to see more of him. Others youngsters Broom and Kilgour were very quite on the night and whilst the latter made some mistakes both have impressed in previous outings so I suspect it was a bit of fatigue from pre season training plus games. All round a good show and looking forward to seeing us against some stronger teams and seeing the inclusion of other senior players such as Mansell and McCrystal.

A special mention to the new pitch at Weston, looked outstanding.

Thought Gos and Monty looked good. I think the trialist is called Sam Barrett. Don't know anything about him other than he was at Maidenhead and is a 'highly rated youngster'...

Love one of the posts on that last link;
"York City manager Nigel Worthington is considering a move for Bristol Rovers right-back Michael Smith. Smith is reported to be wanting out due to relegation, and a mix of his outstanding form this season (gained a place in the league 2 team of the year) and his Northern Irish roots Worthington sees him as a worthy replacement for the departed Lanre Oyebanjo"
If we ever need to remind ourselves how far we've come, just remember we were once in danger of York City signing our best player.

He did not want to alert any other club that he was on trial with us, but it is not always clever to be the first to put info into the public domain.

I'm not the first, and don't even know if it's true... like a rival club is reading this thread about last night's friendly anyway... I assume DC told you he wanted this info kept quiet then, unfortunately I didn't get that memo.

I heard browner shouting 'SAM' when he got the ball! Then saw someone on the rovers Facebook page say it was this Barratt lad along with a picture of him. It matches the name and the picture looked right! Simple as that, I'm not 'I'm the know' or anything!
