The fact that most people are unable to need the midfield says a lot, that as supporters we are unsure who really is our strongest players. I can honestly only every predict our goalkeeper our back 4 and Matty Taylor. The other 5 players seem to change every week. I think if we could firm up our midfield with some really quality we would be right up there. On yesterday's performance I thought we played well and showed some positive signs that we aren't scared and want to win games. Lines for me was our best player looked good on the ball. Over the 90 their quality and ability to be ruthless taking chances paid off and to be fair the goals were top finishes. So assuming Scunthorpe will have a good season and therefore be counted as one of the better teams in league one , what did they do in the second half that swung the balance their way ? Played wider, stronger in midfield, played long ball, closed down rovers attacks quicker ?? These are the lessons BRFC need to learn and emulate. Could we find that having two strikers is a luxury in this division ? Will rovers need to adopt 5-4-1 away from home ? It did appear (based on one game!!) That 5-3-2 didn't offer enough attacking option but 4-4-2 was too weak defensively...... If Scunthorpe are one of top teams then there is no reason we couldn't be far behind with hew additions I was not impressed by them at all. Second half they moved the ball better and with some pace and we gave them more space when they were on the ball allowing them to shoot. With the current side i would say maybe 451 would be better so there more protection in midfield, but that is not when I want to see each week. With additions I would like to see us have 2 up front and be comfortable in midfield.

A good, fair report Steve. The midfield for me is where the problems are. With the quality we currently have we need to play 3 in midfield, we will be destroyed by quality teams playing just 2 in there.
Sinclair and Ollie are both good at stopping other teams from playing but aren't ever going to get us playing. Endeavour and hard work may have been sufficient in the past but we need more quality now. That was pretty obvious to me yesterday.
We competed for 60 minutes but I thought we tired a little and moving to 442 just invited them on to us. No protection in midfield for the back four. Teams at the this level are good enough to take advantage if we are not 100% on it and that's what happened.
2 CMs and a CB/LB cover would be the three on my shopping list. Get the engine room right and I think the rest of the team will be good enough.

Can't understand people saying the issue was the 3-5-2.
Fact is that first half we more than matched them and looked well on our way to 3 points. We conceded a sloppy goal but they were far from all over us. After that, we moved to 4-4-2 - and that is when it all want tits up.
Away from home in League One, I would hazard a guess that Darrell will primarly go for the 3-5-2 - and he's probably right to do until we build up some confidence and have settled in this league.
