Sir Percy, With respect please tell me what Swindon did with the "defensive" line up we put out if it wasn't like a knife cutting through butter? Easter will win a lot more ball than Ollie Clarke because he is a clever player who lets opponents know he is about and most important of all we would have players who can actually do something with the ball when they get it. All the players DC selected today did was give the ball back to the opposition and spend most of the first half chasing players around like headless chickens. One of the worst all round 45 minutes I have watched. Roos was the only player who really turned up. Swindon were another of these teams who we made look far better than they were and again DC would have needed to use all his substitutes to put it right. How about a bit of bravery and pick a team that will take the game to the opposition or we are going to be found wanting on many occasions in this league. the wing back system does not work well at this level or should I say with the players that we have.

Some people have short memories Steve. Tuesday night was only 4 days ago!! Easter on the ball is a clever player but can he do it for 90 minutes? Thats why I have been saying we need some steel in the middle,a bit of bite. Someone who can put their stamp of n the game early, play the simple ball to a Lines or Easter. You need balance in a team, which is no good if you have 3/4 players in the middle who can't tackle/close down etc. You don't need me to tell you we defend too deep and the strikers get little service. Why is that? The bit in the middle of these two is midfield. Whether that is down to instructions from DC or the players themselves I don't know. As you say with the wing back system, if the right players are there it works well. On occasions it does but t more often than not it doesn't.

Agree with every word you have written sirpercy. I think it would be good to see what Easter can do in midfield for 90 minutes as I would say he is 100% fit now and not the Easter we had last season. The only problem I see or have with DC is that we never find out if anything will work better because he keeps playing with this "Keep them out in the first half and attack them second half" strategy and to be honest we can't complain because the results have been fantastic. I have the feeling it won't be as successful this season but I very much hope I am wrong! UTG

UTG [ I agree, but I always have the feeling if we are drawing at half time we won't lose the match, and more than likely go on to win!

I'd play our strongest team tomorrow to keep our players match-sharp (with no game on Saturday), but couldn't care less about the result!

Looks like this thread has changed games mid way ...... Regarding the Reading U23 game I hope we play a strong team and show that U23s from just one league above are no match for League one teams. I hope we stuff them and do not hold back in terms of the physical side of the game. Afraid too many of these U23 teams have only played in the like of pre-season games against L1 and L2 opposition, where clearly teams don't give 100% - hope competitive games shows they are no match for lower league teams.
Won't be going on principle but will listen if there is radio commentary - may attend games against real teams but not the U23s not 100% decided.

Think we need to give the fringe players like Montano some real game time tomorrow
Roos
Leadbitter McChrystal Hartley Roberts
Bodin Lines Easter Montano
. . Gaffney James
Assuming the likes of Mansell, Lawrence & Moore are still out injured and Harrison/Lockyer are off on international duty/may as well have a rest.

Actually how about DC approaching the game with the aim to actually beat the opposition from the off. Surely he can do that and attack with no worries.More of a worry is only 2 days to get in 2 more players!!
Roos
Roberts Lockyer Hartley Brown
Bodin Lines Easter Montano
Harrison Taylor
Subs Clarke J Mildenhall Clarke O Gaffney Sinclair James McCrystal
