On those who attended tonight, hope you're happy when premier and championship second string sides are playing league 1&2 football because that'll be the next hair brained scheme. Give yourselves a pat on your back 🙈

Aside from all the arguments/counter arguments and the banter tonight . Tonight is a sad night for football where the EFL have ignored football supporters all over the country and imposed on us a competition, the conditions/rules of which no-one wanted.

Tonight is a sad night for football where the EFL have ignored football supporters all over the country and imposed on us a competition, the conditions/rules of which no-one wanted. This is the key point isn't it. Ordinary fans don't want it and the majority have made their opinion clear by the low attendances tonight around the country.

I think the majority of people who went tonight probably aren't educated on the matter to be honest. A lot of people will just go to watch Rovers but they don't read fans forums or really look indepth into football the way most forum users do. I bet a lot of tonight's fans didn't even know it was an u-23s side we were playing and thought it was just Reading. I bet if somebody had interviewed everybody coming out after the game and educated them on the situation then a lot of them wouldn't go to anymore shitfest cup games either. There will always be people who slip through the net in these kind of situations and there will be people who don't care and only went to get away from the kids or wife for a couple of hours.

I think it was a good night. I think the feelings of fans were made very clear. I think enough people stayed away to make this a success for the game and a defeat for the FL. If they try something like this again then they will look like wankers.

Thing is if it's a toss up for them between make some more money and look like wankers or not then they might well opt for carry on being wankers. This whole situation stinks of corruption to me. Anyone who knows anything about football in this country knows that this whole shambles of an idea was a non runner right from the off.

Agree 100% with op. I was offered a free ticket to 1 of the boxes and my response you couldn't pay me enough money to watch it. I just text my mate who went saying I hope you fill dirty.

Very patronising.... Very accurate though. They deserve all the criticism that comes. After all, they've effectively voted for the introduction of B/U23 teams in lower league competitions.

Pompey & Luton made 11 changes and are to be hit with a 5K fine apparently.
Honestly, I would rather we did the same for the sake of 5K.

They attended a game for the club that they love and that is it. Jeez I get it, I really do but people need to leave off those who attended. It's up to them. Maybe they aren't arsed with the politics and wanted to watch a match, maybe they got free tickets. Who knows?? The tripe directed at our own fans in ridiculous. Shame indeed

Of course it's up to them, I've never suggested otherwise nor has anyone else. You don't have to be the sharpest tool in the box to comprehend that the success of this trial will largely be quantifiable in terms of attendances. They've therefore voted with their feet and sent a message to the decision makers that they would attend future games featuring U23/B teams and let down those who made the tough decision not to attend tonight.

I genuinely reckon a lot of people were probably none the wiser before the game.
