Sadly, for me we lost it for the same reason as we lost at Scunny. We went for the win, when a draw was good enough. Can't believe we got nowt from the game, but the weak link last night was Leadbitter. He gave the ball away four times in the first half alone, and allowed Sheffield the opportunity to attack us. Boateng looked back on form, so why he took him off I've no idea. Why did he take Brown off, Leads was the liability? I'm glad our manager goes for the win every game. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But it makes the game entertaining.

We are playing well, especially considering how far we've come in a short time and that we've still got many of the same players in the 1st X1.
Some players have really stepped up to the mark at this level (eg MT, Lines, the Beard, JE, Gaffers? ), but one or two are still in need of some coaching (eg Leads, Ellis, Tom, Browner? ).
Last night I thought Ollie C had a very good game - let's hope he can push on from here.
We might need a good forward and one or two defenders after Christmas if we're still not winning many.

Interesting to read some of the comments on the Sheffield United forum...
"Bristol Rovers were a decent side and made it a good game..."
"They had the better chances, if they were more clinical that would have been a draw or worse..."
"Rovers will rightly feel hard done by not to get at least a point.."
(in response to post saying they should beat teams like us easily) "How many teams do you think will beat Bristol Rovers, based on their showing tonight?"
(reply to above) "I think they were a very good team unless others know different!"

Sheffield United fans very complimentary about us.
I'm glad when we're away from home we go for 3 points rather than try sit for a draw. Pleasant change since DC has came in.

Think I have landed in a parallel universe. So much positivity on here, and after a loss!

How do.
As the name suggests I'm a Sheffield United fan, was at the game last night and thought I'd stick my beak in on here.
First off, and in no way is to massage egos etc, but your support did you proud last night - travelled in remarkable numbers given the scheduling and were loud throughout. Very rare we see support like that these days, even on Saturdays.
Although I haven't seen him play, and don't know his strengths/weaknesses, I was happy to see Matt Taylor's name missing from the team sheet - because what I do know is that he scores goals.
I thought the first half was very even, Rovers got the ball into wide positions and put the ball in the 'mixer' as quickly as possible. We played some decent, patient and probing stuff - however lacked that little bit of pace to get in advanced positions more frequently.
Second half, much of the same, but we got a quality goal at a good time and then the red card, which should have meant we saw out the rest of the game on the front foot.
I felt we made things very difficult for ourselves in the last 20 minutes by not going all out for that killer goal. However, I can understand our players mentality - on a decent run, desperate to extend it, and although the atmosphere at the Lane is much improved, you sense the players are still a bit wary of what a late equaliser might have done.
The red card - nailed on, I was sat on the stand closest to it and bang in line, what your guy was thinking I don't know. The very definition of a dangerous and reckless challenge. I'd be seething if I was your manager - you were only 1-0 down and very much in the game.
You are a big strong side who knock the ball about very well, like to get the ball in the box very early. Your clearly going to be one of the better teams in the division based on that performance.
Do you usually play 3-5-2 or did you use that setup thinking we were going to continue with that formation? Injuries/suspensions meant we had to revert to 4-4-2 which doesn't suit our midfielders as much.
Overall a decent game, Im hoping we can push for top two and I suspect you lot should be pushing for top 6.
Best of luck.

I was at the match
Easter missed a sitter, his work rate wasn't great and I think he's better in the pocket than purely up front, say no more about the sending off .....
I think we very tellingly missed Matty last night, some of the chances that went begging, I'm sure his clinical touch would have seen the back of the net
Overall a good performance , the double substitution caught us on the hop IMO, the goal went in straight after those. A great shame, at least a point went begging for sure
On another day with the ball falling right we would or to be fair could have won it
Gaffney back sat please- maybe Hobson's choice?
Ps rovers fans MADE the atmosphere, not much coming back , 900 on a Tuesday in Yorkshire....makes the gurners on Otib a laughing stock

It's one of DC's things to be versatile and able to change formation. Plan A atm seems to be go 352 then change to 442 for the last half hour. But we've done loads of different things recently. There's a bit of a backlash here, with some people thinking we should master 442 (which generally seems to be our best shape under DC) and stick to it.

Thanks - we love our stadium too, think its a 'proper' traditional ground that has been modernised well. Something special when its full and full voice. The noise levels are slowly but surely creeping up now, but I'm sure we can be forgiven given our recent struggles - we are still recovering from the last two seasons and the dross served up. However, with Wilder we are beginning to see a team we can identify with - fingers crossed it continues. Meet you in the play-offs?! Dont say those words, I would rather finish 7th than have to go through them!! We have basically got an entire new squad and we are slowly getting things together, I'm optimistic that as the season goes we will get even stronger and the top 2 will be within our grasps. I don't think we're embarrassed by being in League 1, we've had enough time to come to terms with it, we frustrated more than anything.

Looking at those highlights, Ellis was involved in a lot of our most dangerous moments. That ball through to Easter is a peach. He has so much ability and if he really gets his head down he could be a complete number 9, modelling himself on someone like a Drogba or a Shearer. No, I'm not saying he'll be quite as good as them but he could be a real handful, for sure as he has the power in his game.

He's supposed to be involved in our dangerous moments, he's a striker he needs to be more composed and clinical , but for sure he has a lot to offer , this league is absolute max tho I'd say

No disrespect to you,but i see this comment about our team a fair bit and it's just not true.A comparison to your side on the night maybe? Starting 11 Roos - average size for a keeper J.Clarke - shortish under 6' I think and average sized upper body Lockyer - about 6 foot and skinny for a centre back. Clarke-Salter - not sure of his height (1st game for us) about 6' 2 maybe but another 'lean' one. Brown - short but fairly average build.O.Clarke - about 5'10 and fairly skinny Lines - about 6' but another thinnish one Leadbitter - same as Lines but a bit thinner Boateng - Yep,beast! Easter - I don't think so but can put himself about a bit (as you found out yourself) Harrison - Possibly, but wins a lot in the air without being overly physical, and this may give the impression of being a robust lad. Subs used Bodin,Moore,James - all 3 small and lightweight. Also 2 regulars who didn't play,Taylor and Sinclair, are probably amongst our shortest pair!

Yeah, I like to think we are strong, as in prepared to stand up for ourselves and refuse to be bullied, but we're not a 'big, strong side' in the way it is usually meant.
