I only started watching Rovers the season after THAT season with Francis.
DC is head and shoulders above every manager I have seen us under.

Been watching since whoever was in charge before David Williams was player/manager at Eastville, Williams is the first one I can remember however and I would say that DC is the best manager we've had in my lifetime with Gerry a close 2nd but hopefully DC has got a few more years with us yet to go on and create a real legacy.

That sounds about right because I can remember my old man slagging him off because he was all about the loyalty apparently and then f'd off to coventry I think with aone of our players, Nicky Platneur maybe? I could be totally wrong with all of that as I was only a wee young 'un back then. I can remember Gould being in charge for a bit out at Twerton though.

I can see your point but feel that DC's achievements exceed Gerry's: My reasoning being that despite the fact we were playing in Bath, and I do appreciate that we were using Fry's as a training base, which was not the ideal for a professional football team: DC took us from near enough rock bottom (the next step surely being oblivion) to two promotions. No matter what league a team is playing in, it is supposed to be in the same class as the rest of the league: We got relegated to the Conference because we got less points than other teams of our supposed class: Likewise, we got promoted because we got more points than the rest of the teams in our league, and then showed we were worthy, albeit In one instance by winning the play-off final. DC's budget to achieve the foregoing was reduced dramatically (from all that I have read and been told) to the previous seasons' and I would think was lower in comparison than that that Gerry had. DC is the only Rovers manager to win successive promotions: To use a cliche, no matter what level(s) the team is playing at, it can only beat what is in front of it. To do so two seasons running makes DC the best Rovers manager in my time, in my opinion. EDIT: I would mention that one of my nephews is named Gerry Francis in recognition of the original's job done with us: Unfortunately, when he was still young he wanted his name changed because he felt that Gerry was to blame for our failing He is OK with it again now though............I think It is a close call, and I don't disagree with most of what you said, but I would be extremely surprised if relatively speaking, Gerry's budget at the time was more than DC's, remembering of course that he had to pay for Holloway's transfer out of his own pocket. Maybe we shouldn't compare - they are both great! GF also brought in big money transfer fees for the likes of Martin & Penrice, I feel GF, operated at a slightly higher level by getting us promoted to Div 1, so that possibly makes him a better Rovers manager, although DC's work's clearly not over at Rovers yet.

Why'll we'd all like Lionel Messi to play for the gas. There isn't anyone out there I'd like in charge more than Darrell. From tears to champagne- it's been a beautiful ride. I remember similar sentiment for both Gerry and Johnny Ward, look how that ended. Lets just enjoy the DC journey while it lasts. UTG

So enjoy it to the maximum while you can. Believe me - I've seen 45 years of it.
