Why would you like to see us stick with the diamond, for entertainment it's our most boring formation? Our next 3 games are against teams who are all down on confidence, why don't we take the game to them from the first whistle rather than wait an hour for them to settle into the game before bringing on Monty etc? . i dont see it that way as it allows us to play a midfield that is very exiting in my view and gives us the best chance to dominate opponents. why cant we take the game to opponents with lines, colkett and boateng in a diamond? plus 2 attacking full-backs. we can still have the winger option on the bench of course. boateng is likely to be unfit tommorrow after taking a heavy knock saturday sadly. the problem is if we play 4-4-2 with wingers dc will have to leave out 2 of our 3 creative midfielders or play without a defensive battler type which isnt a great idea and an option dc dosnt like either.

It's the old 'problem' of do we worry about the opposition or do we let them worry about us! I don't understand how playing the same every week in a predictable fashion makes opponents worry it worked well for alex ferguson, arsene wenger and pep so why not us?

Because IMO that only works if you have the best team in the league - and therefore your plan A will 95% of the time beat every other team in the league's plan A. I don't think we have the best team in League One, so making ourselves unpredictable by changing systems and personnel on a regular basis makes us a tougher proposition (I would argue).

Alex Ferguson was perhaps the first to employ squad rotation so that's not in any way relevant, neither is Wenger. Pre 2005 perhaps. Pep, that Barca team indeed were quite settled.

Pep, that Barca team indeed were quite settled. its relevant in that man utd and arsenal were set up in the same way ie teams knew how they were going to play before they played them. ive said elsewhere on the forum that its fascinating how dc changes formations and rotates players but it would also be interesting to see us play with a more settled team[especially back 4] and a run of games using a preferred formation. in the 2 promotion seasons we didnt rotate players and change formations nearly as much as we have this season and i just wonder if the manager is trying too hard to keep the large squad happy. that said we are 6th in league one which is amazing.
