For those who watched the X Files, David Duchovny was a sceptic who played a believer and Gillian Anderson was a believer who played a sceptic.

Oh hang on, isn't Gillian Canadian? Gillian is a dual national, US and UK. She moved between both countries and can talk naturally in both accents depending on where she is.

Income Tax was introduced as a temporary measure to pay for the Napoleonic War.

Income Tax was introduced as a temporary measure to pay for the Napoleonic War. In Germany, we have a tax called a Solidarity Tax. This is approx. 7% of your tax bill, and is added to the final total. It was introduced in the early 90's to help fund Eastern Germany after re-unification. The government needed cash up front at that time. It was meant to only last two years, and after two years you would get the money back ! Still paying it to this day !

Fact of the day. There is no button at the bottom of this page to take you back to general chat, just gas works, very annoying and the main reason I never post in here as it always sends me back to gas works and I forget what I was doing and stay there.

On the mobile version there is a little white Back Arrow that allows you to go back to the General Chat from the thread you are reading.

Yep, it's illegal apparently, except when the governments do it ! Over here, there is also the Church Tax. You have to declare whether you are 'in' or 'out' of the Church. If you are 'in', then a percentage of your tax bill is deducted from your pay packet and sent directly to the Church!
