The Ref looked shockingly unfit but overall did reasonably well. Happy New Year and keep your excellent reports coming. I was rather shocked when I read he was Brett Huxtable, the truly awful ref who followed us around on the Conference like a bad smell (3 games). As he was utterly out of his depth in the Conf I'm shocked he is already taking 'control' of lge 1 matches.

General point -
Don't agree they were going to be 'tough opponents'. I would have been disappointed before the game if we had only got a point.
They've never won at the Mem, haven't scored in 4 away matches (5 now), had two top players out (Taylor & whelpdale), & we've recently shown that we can put poor teams away at home.
They were really poor & we did well to be patient & then put them to bed. Credit to rovers.

Its still the same squad that was rubbish a few weeks back and that needed replacing as this division was beyond them.... The squad is mostly good enough for this division ,they are all still a bit wet behind the ears but will wise up with experience. To take the next step ,as in challenge for top six seriously, they need some new additions but next season they will be stronger for sure

Ollie Clarke is a better option than Sinclair imho

Why DC is bothering with his mate Lawrence is beyond me. We should be bringing on youngsters with 15 minutes to go, not someone I could beat in a 50 yard sprint

To be fair mate they were 1 point behind us before the match and their away form is one of the best in the division. I don't think we have played them enough times at the mem to draw any conclusions from that. I wasn't able to get to the match but from the reports it sounds like they were poor, but before the match, apart from the missing players it looked like they would be tough to beat.

Don't care about a sprint I'd rather have Lawrence than LP Gas. No offence Mate. I still think Lawrence has both the experience and the skill to be an asset in the second half of the Season.

He looked very unfit but actually kept up with play most of the time, The booking of Montano was questionable, O. Clarke you just cannot kick the ball away whatever the decision, and deserved to be booked and should be fined for such a basic discrimination Whatever his history is judged on this match he was not as bad as some But how the hell did he pass the referees fitness test?

Good report - as usual
For me it appears DC has at last found his best team and squad.
Just a couple of players to strengthen and we have utopia.
Regarding Ref Brett Huxtable - is from Devon and consequently we saw a lot of him the season we were in the conference - 4 times at the Mem in one season - but thankfully we seem to win when he refs.

How can zero goals in their last 4 away games be considered good away form?

The truth is our youngsters are nowhere near good enough and probably will all be released before they have even played a handful of games. A youngster needs to be extra special these days to make the first team squad because even with it being a squad of 18 you still have one hell of a lot of experiended players not getting League football or even in a squad. We alone yesterday had Gosling, McCrystal, Mildenhall, Mansell and Sinclair in the stands and that is after Boateng and Roberts going back.

It is very odd how once The Beard is out of the side we seem discover a magic winning formula. Three seasons in a row now..

I Will reserve judgement until after the Charlton game playing 4.4.2. I hope we win well again then the formation saga will prove me wrong! Leadbitter and Bodin on the right is a major factor from what I have seen more so than the formation itself.

Three seasons in a row now.. didnt we have a good run this season with sinclair in the team or was i just imagining it? didnt we have a massive long winning run in the conference after the braintree defeat? or was it just a dream? maybe sinclair is going in january and you and your sinclair hating buddies can all throw a party.

Your last sentence sums up my point. Without any players out wide we are ugly, unorganised, don't create much and are easy pickings. We might well lose today whatever formation we play but overall we just look more solid defensively and create much more with wide men in the side. Of course we aren't going to win every game if we play wide men but other than v Bury where we played narrow I can't remember the last time we won without wide men in the side. I think it might have been Oldham and I'm pretty sure they were bottom of the league at the time.

Fingers crossed that Lookman isn't playing ahead of his move to Everton. He was VERY good at the mem earlier in the season.
On the formation. I'd be surprised to see 4-4-2 considering we're playing away, but happy to be proved wrong as the diamond doesn't look great to me.
