Why do fans keep comparing us to the 82ers, it's totally irrelevant to where we are in Div 1, we need to be competing with the likes of P'boro, Fleetwood etc and you sense they are spending more that us at present, nobody is suggesting we spend £500K on a new CM but attracting a decent Div 1 player would be nice, not just totally National League & young inexperienced loan players. We even signed Lines when we were in the Conference but the chances of getting somebody similar now seems beyond us!!
L2 Barnet are spending better and more than us at present, let alone Peterborough and Fleetwood!

I've just added it up, they've spent £99M since 2013/14. Not that incredible an achievement. Don't get me wrong I'm not knocking them, but it's hardly a shoestring budget. But probably £90 million of that is since they've been in the Premier League. I'm sure they didn't have the smallest budget in their promotion season, but I bet it was in the bottom 8/10. And last season Bournemouth earned £70m in Premier League payments. The amount they've actually spent themselves, although large by our standards, is peanuts compared to the top 7 pr so.

If we are aiming for high quality signings then we will need to be patient. The clubs thay are playing for are not likely to let them go without getting a replacement of some sort (assuming we are getting an up and coming player)

But then surely the longer it goes on in the window the less time other clubs will have to get replacements so wont sell, and we will be left with 19 pros?

DC reckons we'll still get two or three more in (after Sweeney). And I reckon he wouldn't have named those 6 if he wasn't 95% certain that those deals will happen.

Absolutely, he would be stupid to take 6 players out of the equation so publically and not have others lined up. You just wonder if he was that certain whats the hold up?

We compare the 82ers because they are our rich, big headed cross town rivals with the billionaire owner and the big shiny stadium who have spent £100 million (including the stadium refurb) in the past 10 years and they are only 15 places or so above us in the football pyramid. In that time we have gone non league, had a massive old change of guard, have spent peanuts and are coming back strong. Money doesn't guarantee success. With all of City's resources and backing they should have knocked on the door of the premier league at least 3 or 4 times. They have managed it once since they were relegated out of D1 in 82 and have gone backwards more than forwards. If Burnley, Watford and Bournemouth can manage it, then they should, but they cant. So why should we throw money about right now? Fleetwood signed Wes Burns, who struggled at City, and didn't make the grade at Aberdeen, where the football isn't far off L1 standard. They consolidated in this league last year after marching through L2 and are having a crack now, sensible management from the whole club has allowed that. Barnet aren't exactly high flying in L2, they are 5th and Plymouth who are top have just signed Blissett. We have been there and done that.

Being 5th in Div 2 is pretty impressive considering their home gates but that's before the new players have played anyway. Plymouth have signed Bliss for a rumoured £10K, so it's hardly a gamble for them if he flops.
Pretty sure DC's interview saying he hoped to sign another 2 or 3 players was done before Sweeney signed, so it looks like just 1 or 2 more signings. Perhaps he's keeping the best til last but it'll seem a bit odd now if he know brings in an experienced player after bringing 3 inexperienced players.
