I hope neither happen anytime soon. Okay no problem, each to their own. Thanks for your view Victor Meldrew. Don't take the bait.

What do you think the chances are of Rovers in the Premiership & England wining the World Cup in my lifetime? I am 54 years old and I have watched the gas since I was 9 years old when my older brother used to take me. I have always said that I would love to see both before I shuffle off this mortal coil, I realise I am running out of time but I live in hope! Rovers would be my preferred one, am I being greedy wishing for both or just an ageing fool? Thoughts ? More chance of Rovers in the Prem I think. That is, unless the FA and league get together and completely overhaul the coaching structures down to schoolkid level. More football in schools etc.

As far as England goes BREXIT could make a difference because EU players will not be able to come here without a visa and so English youngsters will get a better chance to play for our teams and consequently should make the England team stronger. As far as Rovers are concerned keeping DC is the key. If he stays for a few more years and gets support from the owners a possibility You may be right, although years ago we had very few foreign players, and our performances in European competitions and major championships dipped. English clubs performed better once they started recruiting more international players, as English youngsters got to play with players who were better technically. I would like to see more homegrown players in EFL and Prem, but international players add so much to our game.

I've talked quite a bit about why I don't want Rovers in the prem. Those reasons have already been raised in this thread by others. As for England - again my reasons have already been put forward by others in this thread.

Don't get me started on "Half & half scarves"!!!!!! You support one team or another FFS!!!! Could you imagine buying a half Rovers, half Oldham scarf? The only half & half scarf I'd ever consider buying would be a Rovers - England one. I find it so cringe-worthy when I'm watching Man Utd V Chelsea on TV, the camera pans around to the crowd, and there's a bloke there, with his camera in hand, with a half Man Utd & half Chelsea scarf on. Ggrrrrrr rant over! I guess those scarves are for people who see this as one of the few games they will ever attend and its a momento of a special day [?] Well I got a Half Rovers Half Grimsby Town scarf for £2 from a guy who was selling them off at the end of the Playoff Final. Maybe if we meet Grimsby again I might wear it.

I'm still not sure I really want Rovers in the Prem. £50 plus a ticket , unlikely to get tickets to away games. Tourist football fans. Half & half scarves for sale outside the ground etc etc etc Don't get me started on "Half & half scarves"!!!!!! You support one team or another FFS!!!! I spent the first 19 years of my life as a man utd fan with rovers as my second team (i was a plastic two team w**ker, id rather be honest and admit that), im 23 now and have spent the last few years as a 100% passionate rovers supporter, i made the full time switch for so many reasons id wear my keyboard out but the basic version is that i had been feeling disillusioned with all the bullshit going on in the modern premier league, so when i went to watch rovers for the first time since my childhood (Home vs FGR, we lost 1-0) and i loved it, then i went to another and another and i realized that i had been to more games and had more fun following rovers in 6 months than i did in 19 years of supporting a premier league team. i began to love the club and my passions grew and grew until i was undeniably a Gashead as passionate as any other.
I can remember the first time somebody asked who i supported and i replied Bristol rovers, it was a big day and a wonderful day. id made a drop of 4 divisions, from a multinational to a "ragbag" club, but i wouldnt change anything. The premier league isnt football, its footpolo, for the rich and famous to enjoy, its owned, played and watched by rich people, not local people (try finding a Manchester accent at old trafford.
I have never enjoyed football more, never felt more passionate about my team and never been so obsessed with anything before my switch. it started out from a hatred of the premier league and became a story of me falling in love with our club. So if rovers ever did make it to the premier league i would have incredibly mixed feelings, i would never leave our club, im lifelong now but i would certainly lose some passion because rovers would have become everything i hated that caused my switch.
So i dont want a Premier league Rovers (one or two years id be fine with but not prolonged).we arent "one of them" we are us, flawed yes, ragbag sometimes but Bristol Rovers always <3

Yes clockendgas that's pretty much the way I see things panning out really? England: So much needs sorting out and I cant see that happening for at least another generation if at all? The new stadium is also the biggest one for me having waited so long and seen so many false dawns regarding various possible new homes. So yes sitting in a spanking new stadium (UWE please!) and watching the Gas run out for the 1st time would certainly bring a few tears to my eyes! Then on to the Prem in say 10 years time once we have had time to grow properly, could be sooner or it may never happen who knows? I know one thing for sure the sh** are getting very nervous about us now regarding our progress both on & off the pitch. Remember we are the Gas & you'll never get rid of the Gas!

England will only win the world cup if it is held on these shores. So that's down to the competition organisers. Rovers like any football club "could" reach the premier league and from now to the end of the planet they will at some point play in the top flight. Establishing Rovers as a ever present championship side should be the first goal.

I agree there, but I worked out a while back that it wouldn't be awarded to us until at least about 2038. 2018 Russia. 2022 Qatar. 2026 South America. 2030 Asia. 2034 Africa. 2038 Europe. But probably not us, because they don't like us.Rovers like any football club "could" reach the premier league and from now to the end of the planet they will at some point play in the top flight. Establishing Rovers as a ever present championship side should be the first goal. I'd just like to ever be present, never mind ever present.

As well over half the teams in the league (61 out of 92) have played in the top flight and 47 have played in the Premiershite (Luton and Notts Cheaty were founding members but never actually played in the PL) there has to a decent chance of us getting there sometime. With the recent activity at the club I'm actually quite optimistic that we can. As for all the plastic fans and tourists etc I'm not sure we are going to be bothered by many of them, if you look at clubs like Bournemouth or Swansea or the like there doesn't seem to be much of that going on there so why would we get it, we're hardly a bigger name are we.

If we did ever manage to get to the prem we would sellout every week and as you have said gaelgas no room or interest from so called tourists.
