I think it's all about momentum, we have to keep going to end of season else it's harder to pick up again next. The minute we concede playoffs are out of reach I fear we'll run out of steam. I'd love it to go to the wire again and really think it might. Hate the idea of a few dead rubbers to see the season out Agreed, you should always strive for the highest position possible and to win every game, if that means we end up in the playoffs then all well and good. For what it's worth I can't see DC letting the team coast along just because the playoffs are an outside bet.

Anyone fancy us improving on my predictions and making a late charge with this new striker we're apparently getting? Groundbreaking and all that. First issue is to find out if the rumour I heard is accurate. Fingers crossed. Do you know who or just that it's going to be a striker?

Haha sorry, I meant I'm not expecting us too, just that we don't coast until the end of the season.

So 11 games to go this season and we're sitting pretty in 11th place with 48 points, passing unbeaten through a February in which I predicted we would be mullered regularly. 74 points is the average number of points needed over the last decade to get into the last play-off space in league one. I don't think for a minute we'll do it but let's examine the run-in as I see it: Oxford (A) - Draw Southend (H) - Draw Bury (A) - Win Chesterfield (H) - Win Coventry (A) - Win Shrewsbury (H) - Win Wimbledon (A) - Draw Gillingham (A) - Win Oldham (H) - Win Peterborough (A) - Lose Millwall (H) - Lose That puts us on 69 points, just shy of what we'll probably need (although enough for Chesterfield to sneak it in 2014/15). Anyone fancy us improving on my predictions and making a late charge with this new striker we're apparently getting? Groundbreaking and all that. I don't think we'll win at Bury or Gillingham, but I also don't think we'll lose at home to Millwall.. the rest I agree with

Don't know how I managed to post the letter Z it ain't a sleeping symbol as that would be on the UWE thread!! I predicted we will finish on 66 points a couple of weeks back so I will stick with it who would have thought we would be where we are this time last year UTG

It conveyed so much in just one letter and now, having been so intrigued by it, you tell us it's a mistake!

I'm happy as long as we get around the 55 point mark to be honest. I know that a bit pessimistic given our current form, but once we're safe we can start planning for next year. That and a UWE announcement would make for a great summer said this from the start (only my target was 50 points), all about survival and huge infrastructure improvements

I think a play-off place is asking too much. That said I think it's important to push on and aim high as possible as how you finish a season can set the mood for the next one. DC is going to have a busy summer looking for a goal-keeper, a central defend or two, a brace of strikers and also some midfield cover. Hopefully we can sign one or two of the loanees but who knows if that a possibility or not. Having seen Sweeney play suggests that Hartley might not be the player we need for a promotion push but he is rather a squad player needed for cover. I think we all know we need to add to our forwards and need cover for Lines and Ollie Clarke. So IMO a mid-table finish is good but there is still a lot a work still to do if we are to mount a challenge next year.

We got 23 points from the last 10'games in 2006-07, so anything is possible, but I can't remember if we had a gap as big as 7 points to the playoffs back then.

I think the games in hand may kill us but it's great to be still in with a chance. Can my poor old heart stand another last minute of the season job though?

Think it was a much bigger gap in 2006/07. UTG!

I love all this talk of play-offs although I don't think we'll get there. I'm just enjoying the season and the fact that we are looking up at those above us and not down at those below us. And two central midfielders who are bossing the last few matches are Bristol boys, two of our own! UTG!

Same , I don't think we'll win 7 or 8 of our games remaining but I love the fact that our manager , staff , players and ourselves are going to give it our best shot and really go for it. It's a great time to be a Gashead and after the last 15 or so years I feel like we've earned it.

DC wont allow things to slip even if the playoffs become unattainable...after all many contracts are up in the summer and they all know the funds are there for different players now adays.
DC will want to get past the 53 pts The Trollope team got when finishing 16th...then it will be the 62 and 63 pts of the 11th placed finishes.
He probably realises the 80pts of the Holloway promotion certainties to missing the playoffs is not going to be beaten this season. Though a 81pt finish is still possible so that's alive till the first point is dropped.
