So the narrative being peddled about the victims being the 'poorest in society' doesn't really ring true does it? If a number of the flats were privately owned. Also, does this mean the the private owners must have had to pay a certain amount for the maintenance and consequent upgrade to the building. If so, were they also complicit in driving the costs down of that upgrade? If the ownership was predominantly private then why was the tax payer funding upkeep? Probably not so lets not make these accusations until it all comes out. What is true is that whole areas of London have had a degree of social cleansing, under whatever guise you play it. This is what drives this attitude of one for the rich and one for the poor

This is what drives this attitude of one for the rich and one for the poor If it was a mixture of council/private flats, then the private owners would have had to pay a percentage towards the cost of the building maintenance. No one is making accusations, but it does seem as though there is a lot to come out in the wash, so to speak.

How it normally works is a price is agreed with the housing association or council (depends on who owns the flats) .this is then divided by the number of flats a bit is added on to each and thats what they recharge to the privately owned flats. The private owners don't usually get much say if its predominately council owned , it used to be stump up or compulsory purchase. someone i knew a while back had that option years back so took the compulsory purchase ans believe it or not was given a council house in hartcliffe ,which is something i never understood as he had the money to buy elsewhere but instead got rehoused by the council.

I've just seen an article online where Saidq Khan is asking for an amnesty for illegal immigrants who have been affected by the fire.
I thought it was strange when it was said in the news 'some bodies may never be identified' and the police commander has urged people to come forward and report people who were in the block, and he doesn't care about the reasons for delays in providing this info etc.
Now I understand.

As I said earlier in the thread.......People get given council flats in Kensington, and then sub-let them out for up to 2,000 quid a month, making a healthy profit.

I read it slightly differently as he called for the amnesty so funds could be distributed to those who shouldn't be there, to me that is a dangerous thing to do as if it happens how many would turn up and say i was there to get some cash etc.
The easiest way to find out who was there is to look at the tenancy agreements , then tick off those who are alive ,then appeal for those who haven't responded to come forward ,as surely anyone who was visiting the block will be known to the authorities via relatives reporting them missing.
The some will never be id'd will also include many legal tenets as if they have yet to visit the doc's or dentists then there will be an absence of records ,so in reality i feel the no id comment was more aimed at those people than illegals
