For anyone interested, the England C game against Wales C is being screened live tonight on Sgorio's Facebook page and YouTube channel. Kick off at 7.45pm. m.facebook.com/sgorio/I was impressed with Darlington's 21-year-old right back Luke Trotman for England C tonight. Boundless energy to get up and down the pitch, direct, quick, powerful, put some dangerous crosses into the box and defended well when he had to. I can see Football League clubs taking an interest in him and Andy Legg (Cardiff City U23 coach) in commentary was certainly impressed. James Hardy also looked good with his touch, close control, dribbling and balance, but the other player to stand out for me was the 22-year-old England C captain Laurence Maguire (Harry's brother) at centre back. An elegant player, comfortable on the ball, two good feet, tries to play the ball on the deck where possible, reads the game well and looks defensively solid.

Some players play below their natural level for whatever reason and I would say 24-year-old 6ft 2in centre back (or CDM) Kieran Fenton at Coalville Town falls into that category. The classy former England U19 international and Nottingham Forest product has a lovely left foot and not only is he decent defensively, but can do a bit in the air at the other end and some of his free kicks are also at a different level.
Edit:
22-year-old central midfielder Andrew Wright has also impressed for Coalville Town this season with 14 goals.

A good young player that has caught my eye this season who might be worth a look for our development squad. Zak Goodson, 18-years-old, 5ft 11in, Striker, Basford United. During the 17/18 season he picked up the Award for Top Goalscorer at the AGM for the National League U19 Alliance. Left footed Goodson finished not only the top goalscorer for the Long Eaton United Academy, but also took the same award for the Long Eaton United first team. He scored 23 goals from 39 games in total for Long Eaton United as a 16/17-year-old in the Midland Football League, before signing for Basford United at the end of October 2018. Since joining Northern Premier League Premier Division side Basford United he has scored 11 goals and got 5 assists from 11 starts (plus 8 sub apps), including a good goal against Chesterfield in the FA Trophy. In the past he scored 2 goals for Derby County U16s against Valencia in October 2015. After posting this he scored another 2 goals later that same night to help Basford United reach the final of the Notts Senior Cup.

And not forgetting Taylor (2 promotions, 68 goals in 132 games). Edit: Matthews was actually signed from Bournemouth where he was highly-rated, but spent a couple of loan spells at Eastleigh. I only meant Mensah because we were in League 1 when we signed him (and Joe P and Sam M). Joe P made a good transition and is ok, Sam M finding it harder but then it’s not been the best season for anyone to find their feet tbh. Taylor stayed in the same league when we signed him so I guess not too great a transition needed. Players from the National who come to us are moving up two levels, those from National N and S moving up three levels etc....etc. It’s quite a transition but I hope we could aim to sign the very best. And as you’ve said there are gems out there. UTG! You're forgetting that some of these players were from league clubs in the first place and dropped into the Conference. They had something to prove.

Of course you’re right but I guess that’s one of the problems about PL and other clubs hoovering up all the talent. There will never be real chances for them at their parent clubs and they will be forced out to lower league clubs to have chances. And if they don’t make it then it just shows how ineffective the whole system is. Thats why so many of the young players that pirate identifies on here are often players doing well in non league but whose apprenticeship was spent at a PL or Championship club but got released. I don’t know for sure but the players who start in non league and develop in non league and then make it in the league must be the exception because anyone with any talent would normally be picked up by a league team. UTG!

UTG! You only have to look at some of the players I mentioned on the thread recently and where they were as youngsters. Jamie Vardy (Sheffield Wednesday), Charlie Austin (Reading), Chris Smalling (Millwall), Ashley Williams (West Brom), Craig Dawson (Man City), Anthony Pilkington (Preston/Man Utd/Blackburn), Lee Tomlin (Leicester City), Joe Lolley (Birmingham City), Lee Gregory (Sheffield United) and Che Adams (Coventry City). There are exceptions to the rule with the likes of Troy Deeney, Michail Antonio, Albert Adomah, Aden Flint etc, but most spent time in pro clubs academy system's and got released. Edit: We had Tyrone Mings on our books as an U18 and then released him (as did Southampton before us). He dropped into non-league, played men's football for Yate Town and Chippenham Town, impressed enough for Ipswich Town to offer him a deal and then went to Bournemouth for a reported £8 million fee.

Pirate - the lad Trotman looks interesting and worth keeping an eye on or even offering a trial to? We could do with someone to provide width with an engine to get up and down if we persist with the narrow diamond.
Btw - how is the young striker at Mangotsfield progressing? Any league clubs sniffing around?

Any league clubs sniffing around? Trotman was very good for England C and would definitely be worth scouting or offering a trial on the evidence of that performance. I'm not sure if any league clubs are watching Louis Britton at Mangotsfield, but I think he has 18 goals from 22 games in all competitions for a struggling side and is well worth someone at the club keeping an eye on him. It might be worth offering him a trial in the development side or U18s to watch him up close in training (and maybe a game or two) to see how he compares to our lads of the same age.

What a season it has been for young Slimbridge goalkeeper Lewis Adams. He made his Southern League debut for the club at the age of 17 (made 24 appearances in all comps now), helped Slimbridge (saving a couple of penalties in the process) achieve one of their best ever results by beating Cheltenham Town in the Gloucestershite Senior Cup (they now face Bristol City in the Semi Final), was called up to an FA XI and has helped his Hartpury College side to the ESFA Boys U18 Elite Schools’ & Colleges’ Cup Final. I will be watching the final tomorrow and it will be interesting to see how he performs. Hopefully someone from Rovers is monitoring his progress too.

The Slimbridge/Hartpury Gk Lewis Adams did what he had to do well today, but hard to judge him on that performance because it was such a dominant display from Hartpury (won 5-0) and he had little to do overall. He kicked well when under pressure and made one decent save (see below). The promising Cirencester Town winger Owen Windsor (mentioned earlier in the thread) also did ok for Hartpury and scored with his weaker right foot (see below). He also scored a screamer for the England Schoolboys U18 side on Friday and then came off the bench on Saturday to win a penalty for Cirencester Town. Another lad to catch the eye was Gloucester City youth/Hartpury/England Schoolboys U18 central midfielder Ross Johnstone who broke up play well and has a nice range of passing. The tricky winger Romeo Yao Fabrice (named MOTM) and striker King Baidoo also looked promising. Both came to Hartpury College from the Right to Dream project which has produced these players: www.righttodream.com/Pages/Category/footballers

Wow, great goal. Looks powerful and direct, albeit quite left-footed from this (admittedly small sample size) clips.

I see 17-year-old Owen Windsor made his first start for Cirencester Town in the Southern League at the weekend and scored a goal in an important game against Evesham United. I've seen him three times this season (twice for the England Schoolboys side and once for Hartpury College) and he has impressed each time. A name to keep an eye on and definitely one the club should be monitoring for the development squad. gaschat.co.uk/post/487652Here he is scoring for Hartpury College:

I was watching the ESFA U18 Schools’ Cup Final on Tuesday (Repton School vs. Hampton School) and a couple of players stood out to me - Matty Bowman (Repton) and Shaun-Chris Joash (Hampton). Both are a couple of gems worth trialling with the development squad. Matty Bowman is an 18-year-old Right Back/Wing Back currently playing his club football for Scarborough Athletic. He's previously been on the books of Middlesbrough and Hull City and trained with Blackburn, Wigan Athletic, Leicester City and Dunfermline Athletic this season. He recently turned out for the England National Independent Schools Under-18s against Wales Colleges at St.George's Park, scoring one of the goals in a 3-3 draw. Then he made a significant contribution from right wing-back in a 1-1 draw against England Colleges. Bowman run and cross that created a goal in the Schools Cup Final: Bowman Scarborough Athletic assist: Bowman 2017/18 Season Highlights: Bowman 2016/17 Season Highlights: Shaun-Chris Joash is a tricky 18-year-old winger or striker who was on the books of Brentford before they scrapped their academy, although I'm not sure who he is playing his club football with now. "And up front, Hampton possess one of the most talented players you’ll see in the school game this season – Shaun-Chris Joash. On his day, Joash is close to impossible to stop." hscsetup.net/2019/04/01/taming-of-the-shrewsbury-1st-xi-head-north-dreaming-of-glory/Talking of Scarborough Athletic, I reckon their 24-year-old goalkeeper Tommy Taylor would also be worth a trial in the summer. He won the Evo-Stik Young Player of the Year award back in 2014/15 and won a series of awards at the Club's Player of the Year Awards for 2017/18 during their promotion winning season. Edit: Apparently Taylor is 26 (not 24 like the Scarborough Athletic website says) and had a trial last month with Rotherham United. www.thescarboroughnews.co.uk/news/scarborough-athletic-s-tommy-taylor-shines-in-rotherham-united-trial-1-9664171

I'm looking forward to watching Owen Windsor (Cirencester Town), Dean Rule (Camberley Town) and Ross Johnstone (Gloucester City) tonight (Kick off 7pm) playing for England Schoolboys U18s. Three players I reckon are worth Rovers scouting/trialling. The Northern Ireland duo of Liam Hassin (Larne) and Ryan Carmichael (Portadown) are also worth keeping an eye on. For anyone interested you can watch here: m.youtube.com/channel/UCbAqe8YbyRXYjkSDSKlQWkw/videosHopefully there will be more quality goals like this one from Owen Windsor: EDIT: My summary of tonight's game? 90 minutes I will never get back. A very poor game and nobody really stood out, apart from maybe the Northern Ireland number 9 Callum Ferris, who I believe still plays for Portadown, despite being set to join Middlesbrough a couple of years back. www.gazettelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/highly-rated-teenager-callum-ferris-13386671
