I've mentioned him several times before on the thread, but I hope we are keeping an eye on Ed Williams at Kidderminster Harriers. Scored a nice goal against an Aston Villa XI tonight.

20-year-old Ashford United striker Danny Parish is a player I wouldn't mind us taking on trial this summer. During 18/19 he scored 24 goals from 28 games and was named in the Isthmian South East Division Team Of The Year. Previous to joining Ashford United he played for Thamesmead Town and scored 21 goals in 23 appearances. Was a pro at Brentford and during his time in the U16s scored against Barcelona and also scored and assisted against Inter Milan.

I hope we will be scouting the 18-year-old Hereford left back Rhys Davies this season. He made 30 appearances last year for Nuneaton and Chippenham on loan from Shrewsbury. The son of former Hereford, Swindon, Reading and Crystal Palace defender Gareth Davies.

Do you reckon Adam Thompson from Bury (Just ripped his contract up) could be realistic after working GC for 4 years at Southend. He is rumoured to be called up to Northern Irish squad. I’ve heard he had a great season last year. Thoughts Pirate?

I would have taken scales and kitching over little and davies any day. I just think thats the way rovers should be going, pushing hard to get young players into the club and playing them. Little is on his way down and davies is 27 years old but hasnt achieved very much in truth. You can keep ched evans or leon clarke as well imo. We already have experienced useful and useless players at the club we should be trying to bring in good young players from anywhere we can find them. I wouldnt be surprised if forest green's offer of a 3 year deal at an ambitious club is what clinched the deal for them. We need a radical rethink at the club but there is nobody around to bring that about. All were doing is competing with wycombe and wimbledon by signing mediocre trundlers who happen to have been around for a while. Ps im glad we signed hare at least. I understand your preferences bb in wanting players on their way up rather than players looking for a contract and I often post the same but Hare fits that as does the Dutch keeper and Tyler Smith. We need a balance I guess like most teams to be successful and GC seems to be moulding the team to fit his ways and his no-nonsense re Payne shows me that so far GC is radically changing the team and perhaps the approach in that he appears more focussed. I’ll wait until they play before I judge our new players, I’m quietly optimistic but I usually am so that means nothing! And tbf to GC I think he is changing the recruitment and the thinking at the club, at the moment we’re in the best transfer window for sometime for signings although that will only be proved when we start playing. Lets give GC some slack, we’ve still some time to strengthen our midfield before we start. UTG!

I sort of admire your optimism warehamgas, but I'm not really feeling it myself yet and I'm not sure what "the best transfer window for sometime for signings" is based on. Hopefully I'll feel more optimistic when the window closes and we've made a few more quality signings in key positions. Fingers crossed.

I’m with Wareham on this one. Don’t underestimate GC’s abilities. He may wear his heart on his sleeve but he is very astute as the “GC league table” Jedi mind trick proved last season. The fact that he managed to organise and motivate a team incredibly low on confidence who were heading towards the trap door is a rarity in management and deserves respect. He had no option but to set up not to lose, initially to stop the rot and build some self belief but also because statistically it was more likely to accrue some points. Thankfully it was enough. I don’t believe for one minute that he will play the same way this season when we’re starting from a level playing field.
I believe that he has made an assessment of what it takes to perform well, and ideally get out of this division, based on a decade of experience and has set about recruiting accordingly. We now have a mixture of youth and experience, height and pace. I don’t care that the majority of our strike force misfired last season, that’s water under the bridge. They clearly have some talent but need the right circumstances to flourish whether that is the personnel surrounding them, the formation or the game plan. Everyone has an off period in their working lives, it’s just unfortunate for footballers that they are so public and ideally for us hopefully not more than one or two in a team at any one time.
Injuries aside I think we’ve got a pretty decent squad this season even if no one else walks through the door. So I’m going to get excited about our prospects, maybe this years surprise package, even if the rest of you miserable sods aren’t. UTG

The best transfer window for sometime is based on getting defenders into replace what we’ve lost and we’ll have to wait and see but Little, Hare and Davies look to be decent signings. The keepers look far better than our two we released. And I said that we were only part way through the window knowing we need more creativity in midfield. Come on pirate that’s more or less the same as your reply! Blimey pirate I’m a BRFC fan optimism is my default position so of course I’m optimistic. For years what else was there?😉 UTG!

Robbie Willmott at Newport would be a tidy buy, Ian Henderson at Rochdale is being chased by Salford proven goalscorer.

The defence looks weaker overall to me at the moment with Locks going and the injury to THD. Leahy is decent and good back up, but the sooner THD is back the better. Right back on paper is the only area I think we have really strengthened as far as first XI starters go. I'll be very surprised if the keepers are better than Bonham who has kept more clean sheets the past 2 seasons than Jaakola has managed during his whole time in South Africa, Scotland and England. What we lacked last season was goals and creativity and I don't think that has been adequately addressed, so hopefully we will do that in due course. As things stand I think we will struggle next season and at the moment I would just be happy with survival. Hopefully my expectations will change once the transfer window closes and we've (fingers crossed) made 2 or 3 more decent signings.

A good signing for someone would be Adam Thompson - just 'ripped up' his contract with Bury - now a free agent. Would of been good for us but we've probably got enough CH's. Wouldn't surprise me if he went to Fleetwood.

Post are saying that other Championship clubs as well as Barnsley were sniffing around, I can't believe we weren't aware of someone like that on our doorstep, maybe we had asked the question and been turned down? A month or two ago they also had the promising Clevedon Town pair of Sam Larkins and Ryan Jones on trial for 6 weeks. I watched a game today between Weston-super-Mare and Banwell. A young lad for Weston really stood out...Ryan Jones. An attacking midfielder/number 10 with a lovely left foot, good pace, nice balance and dribbling ability. He impressed last season for Clevedon Town u18s. One for Rovers to watch and keep an eye on.
