Hull sounds a likely destination, McCann, former Posh manager who signed him at Posh I think, now at Hull. UTG!

A month or two ago they also had the promising Clevedon Town pair of Sam Larkins and Ryan Jones on trial for 6 weeks. I watched a game today between Weston-super-Mare and Banwell. A young lad for Weston really stood out...Ryan Jones. An attacking midfielder/number 10 with a lovely left foot, good pace, nice balance and dribbling ability. He impressed last season for Clevedon Town u18s. One for Rovers to watch and keep an eye on. Was that against Somerset Senior Banwell?.

Obviously not up against quality opposition, but Jones looked a good player for the reasons I mentioned above. Needs to fill out a bit, but he's only 18, so plenty of time for that. Looks a good prospect to me and I can see why City had him on trial last season for 6 weeks and I'm sure they are continuing to monitor him.

Have you heard of any decent youngsters released by Everton as they are normally a good source of young talent for L1.
Some of the better released youngsters from Prem clubs are Callum Roberts (Newcastle) Conor Masterson (Liverpool), Callum Gribbin (Man Utd), Josh Bohui (Man Utd), Martell Taylor-Crossdale (Chelsea) and Jonathan Afolabi (Southampton). Would welcome any of them here. Taylor-Crossdale signs for Fulham after release from Chelsea. See him doing well there, he rejected a new contract at Chelsea like a couple of youngsters in the past few years (Dominic Solanke, Jonathan Panzo, Harvey St Clair, Marcin Bulka etc). But with Lampard at the helm and a complete turnaround from the expected to follow those Juan Castillo, it'll be interesting to see who performs well and if Lampard is a success or not. They've got some good players under their belt that I was hoping we'd look at. Ruben Sammut, who was on loan at Falkirk last season, released and joins Sunderland. Kyle Scott, released and looks to be joining Newcastle. Jacob Maddox, full season at Cheltenham last season, born in Bristol and was in the City academy for 5 years. Played a few games for England U20s and I think he's predominantly a winger. A player who looks like he's got a huge future and definitely a future star is Myles Peart-Harris who has a very similar playstyle to Ruben Loftus-Cheek. I've been surprised we haven't gone for Chelsea's young players anyway near as much as I'd expected. City seem to be their second team if anything. Which is disappointing after we loaned in Charlie Colkett and Jake Clarke-Salter, who at the time were two of their most exciting talents. Both were poor for us but that shouldn't put us off loaning in players from arguably the best academy in the country. Look at the success City have had from doing it!

The lad Billy Gilmour at Chelsea is an outstanding prospect, although not one I'd ever expect to drop to this level. Other really good prospects there I like are Faustino Anjorin, Tariq Lamptey and Marc Guehi.

Certainly as a squad player, has been very impressive pre-season. Also like Richard Nartey (now on loan at Burton), Ian Maatsen, Daishawn Redan and Pierre Ekwah-Elimby

I haven't seen him yet, but one that is meant to be a bit special is the 15-year-old Adrian Akande, who scored 30 goals and created 22 assists in 42 games for Chelsea's youth teams last season.

Amazing knowledge Pirate.I'm at a NW Counties league game in the Potteries tomorrow.I have no doubt you'd know all the players!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A player at that level this season, 18-year-old central midfielder Callum Dolan, has just joined Altrincham in the National League North and would be worth the club keeping an eye on. He has been on the books of Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers and Bury previously. On trial at Burton Albion. www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/burton/ex-manchester-united-youth-set-3091832

Hi Pirate (Wes)
Was told today that we came close to getting a Everton youngster on loan who plays midfield/winger, but fell through at the last minute, Any ideas who it could have been ?

MK Dons sign Rhys Healey from Cardiff - bloody good signing!! Part of an email i sent to Rovers on 12/12/2012. MK Dons fans said he was far too good for L2 and will be fine in L1. Meanwhile most of strikers would struggle to make an impact in L2
