Danny Loader set to be released by Reading on a free without any compensation due.
If we could convince him his development is best served playing competitive first team football at League One level now and not U23 stuff, then he could prove a good signing.

Two more highly-rated players in non-league to keep an eye on.
18-year-old Ollie Tanner at Bromley who can play wide or as an attacking midfielder. Made his first team debut in the National League as a 17-year-old. Left footer previously on the books of Charlton and Arsenal.
17-year-old striker Jayden Wareham at Woking who scored lots of goals in their youth and development sides and made his first team debut in the National League as a 16-year-old.

Oby Alfa caught the eye out on loan from QPR in non-league and might be ready to test himself at a higher level.

I've updated the list of non-league prospects (a few posts above) worth keeping an eye on to include a few that I forgot to mention.
Harvey Wiles-Richards, Bath City goalkeeper is one. I'm not sure what the deal is with him, but he has been playing games for Bristol City U23s. I don't know if he's on an extended trial or as The Post puts it "technically on loan", but he is still occasionally turning out for Bath too. A good prospect.
Another one is the Hereford defender Callum Wood who was on loan at Cinderford. Left footer who can do a job at left back or centre back. Playing first team football at the age of 16.
And the 6ft 5in 17-year-old centre back Eric Ameyaw playing for Dunstable Town would be worth a trial or scouting.
Also, a 17-year-old lad called Joe Wylie is playing first team football for Willand Rovers in the Southern League Div One South and is meant to be a prospect. He joined them from Wellington where he was playing Western League stuff at the age of 16.

I think Newport County midfielder Elis Watts is a name that we'll be hearing more about in the coming years.

Brighton and Poland U21 centre back Kacper Lopata is one I like. He is no stranger to the area and actually used to live in Horfield believe it or not! He was on the books of Yeovil at one point and played for Shaftesbury Crusade and also for Clevedon Town in the Western League as recently as the 18/19 season. He had a couple of trials with Bristol City and during one trial game was spotted by a Brighton scout who recommended they sign him. Would be a decent loan for us.

Another centre back that has caught my eye is 22-year-old Scott Wharton at Blackburn. He has had impressive loan spells in League Two where he helped both Lincoln and Bury to promotion and this season with Northampton who were in the playoffs before the season was halted.

19-year-old 6ft 4in Dylan Barkers at Guiseley is a promising defensive midfielder who can also do a job at centre back and a player that should be monitored IMHO, as well as his highly promising teammate Reiss McNally who I mentioned previously in the thread.

Not heard anything about any players we are interested in signing, but when I mentioned Ethan Chislett's name to someone connected to the recruitment department at Rovers they were pretty dismissive and questioned his goal and assist record this past season. Personally I think for his first season at that level for a 21-year-old he has done well. A classy player with potential.

I'd release the big Dutchman if he's out of contract, send out Alexis on a season loan and bring in a new back up keeper.
The ex Leeds/Man Utd lad Theo Richardson currently at Cleethorpes Town would be decent.
Or the former Everton keeper Chris Renshaw currently at Witton Albion
Alternatively former England U18 cap Charlie Grainger at Dulwich Hamlet would be decent.
Or one of the best keepers in non-league Pete Crook at Boston Utd could do a job. 17 clean sheets last season, 17 clean sheets the previous season and 19 clean sheets the season before that.

Alexis is 22 years old, been with us for 3 years without getting near the first team. His only appearance was in his first season with us and he's not shown any progress. He'd be the first one I'd release. A small club like ours who probably won't get any gate income next season cannot afford the luxury of sending a player our on a season long loan. We're not man utd!!!! I think the number of pro players on our payroll has to be significantly reduced next season along with backroom staff like 'head of recruitment' and 'performance phase' coaches. Its got to be a new approach for a club like ours.

Its got to be a new approach for a club like ours. I was under the impression Alexis was still under contract, but if it runs out this summer then I would probably release him too. Theo Richardson, who I mentioned for example, is younger and has more experience of first team men's football and looks a better prospect from what I've seen. However, the point about sending a 22-year-old (a baby in GK terms) keeper out on loan is not what I would call a luxury, but more to do with long term asset development. Plus, you want to get rid of one of the most important positions in a football club, the head of recruitment/chief scout? What then, rely on agents etc with potentially a vested interest? No thanks. Keep the head of recruitment and save money in other areas.

Agree. Before we had H of R our recruitment was very hit and miss. Some very good ones but some poor ones as well. Now it seems to be better. It will never be without a few failures but on the whole it is far better. Keep that position and make cuts elsewhere. I’m old enough to remember when we had a proper recruitment team getting some very good South Wales talent. We need to stick with him rather than leave ourselves at the whim of agents and others. UTG!

Cardiff and Swansea have got better facilities and have overtaken us in the pyramid since then which makes things more difficult.
