I would say DCs best transfer window so far has been the conference season. The players he signed then are still at the club for the most part. After that I can't say we've made any amazing signings in the windows. Lumley and Sweeney seem to be the exception to the rule. So Bodin and Gaffers not good signings admitted Gaffers wasn't great last season I rate Gaffers to be fair, but yeah not really enough goals for a striker. Bodin was a trialist at first wasn't he? Then on a short term deal. I get your point, but for every Bodin there is a Wall or Martin

Simple question, who succeeded then? The whole squad succeeded surely. We're talking specifically about last summers signings.

James Clarke, Hartley and Montano were hardly flops either? Can't judge Partington or Burn as they didn't get a chance last season

With training starting next week in an ideal world most teams have made the majority of their signings unless they have very few to make. This gives the team plenty of time to gel. I really did expect that we would make as many as five or six signings this week with the other 4 or 5 being spread out from next week until the deadline closes. I fear at the moment that this will be like last summer which in terms of signings was pretty well a disaster with very few of them making a success and it was certainly a case of DC's Managing ability being far better than his signings. He does not have the luxury of making so many mistakes this time around especially as so many key positions are required. Many will say that we are not far behind most teams in the division in terms of signings but I would be surprised if many teams are expected to make five signings let alone 10 or 11. Thanks Steve, I had a huge wedge on you at Evens to write another panic thread befofe the end of June. I was starting to sweat but I guess it was never in doubt really.

Can we merge this thread with 'when will panic mode set in?'

It's all part of the DC masterplan. We always play part of the season with a keeper who can't catch a cold (Spiess, Nicholls, etc.) and have at least 2 young loanees per season who don't want to play for us Colkett being an example from last season. Then there is always the wild card old pro who randomly starts training with us and gets a contract Harris,Fallon. I am sure this is all jedi mind tricks to lull other teams into a false sense of security and genius on the part of DC.

Every club has the same problem. Not every signing works out. We are no different. I am interested in seeing who the boss brings in. No panic here. We are making progress and it can be painful sometimes. The transfer window has not opened yet. Don't be fooled by other clubs announcements as they could be papering over the cracks. I am still looking forward to the new season.

We will just have to see who we sign before sept 1st and how they perform, its not realistic to expect to have everything sorted before training begins. Its true that hartley, byron moore, roberts, boateng, roos, colkett, james and clarke-salter were all poor in my opinion and we relied on mostly the conference season signings and bodin to finish well up the division. Sweeney and lumley of course were outstanding january signings so it wasnt all bad. I would rather us sign the right players late in the window than the wrong players early. That said we have to sign a keeper and striker at the very least before match one. I would hope we are up and running long before Sept 1st and not having to start playing catch up after 4 league games. We need two goalkeepers a centre half and a quality striker at least assuming we don't lose anymore players. Do really think the "right players" are still going to be available late in August. For lots of reasons i think it is possible to make a great signing late in august. Players demands lowered and players suddenly out of favour early in the season being 2 reasons. I agree some positions have to be filled before then though.

DC will be laughing his socks off at a thread like this! He'll mention the fans panicking after he's revealed his first six signings on Monday!
Why can't fans just chill and wait for 1st July!?
Who was the player we announced once only to be told that he'd signed for someone else the next day? DC has ensured that this club won't be used as a bargaining tool!

Does anyone here honestly think we will go into the first game with too few players? Everybody keeps saying they trust DC, well this is your opportunity to show it. Nobody here knows what deals are being worked on in the background. The fact were still waiting for confirmation suggests to me that we're going for a better quality of signing, the sort with competition or which require replacements to be confirmed first. You can sense the frustration building on here. Just try and chill out. It will all come together in the end.

DC and Hamer have stated there is 3 players lined up for each position...are we already looking at no.2 and 3 in the preference list?

We could well have signed a few players already and are waiting until their old contracts to lapse before they are announced. A press release for it on the opening day of training makes sense to me.

If Rovers are so far behind all the other clubs in signing new players .The next few weeks are going to be pretty quiet everywhere else with just the occasional BRFC signing popping up amongst the tumbleweed.
So next week I expect that daily updated summer signings thread to run dry.... we shall see.

As SK says which other Div 1 clubs needed to sign 10 players in May and with a month or so to got August still need to sign 10! As GI says what's going on with the new shirts, why not release a sneak preview of the new home & away shirts to give us something else to talk about, apart from the lack of signings & LJ being re-signed? Today's main news in the BP is Ellington hoping make a break though into the 1st team squad so even JV's run out of story lines!!
