So, someone mentioned if we are 18th in November....
Hindsight is a horrid thing for football fans, so let's see what we as fans would have done rather than saying that if and when we are trouble. Fans often forget their convictions at that point!
If no, feel free to say why and then you can say "I told you so"

I don't like long contracts normally.
However, in 3 years as manager of the club we have only progressed every season, 2 promotions in that time and it is hard to find many flaws with him. There has been no sign of questioning his integrity, drive and ambition to succeed.
I really hope and believe he could be our leader for a long time to come.

if he were to be sacked, I doubt he would get much more than what he would previously. Most of these contracts nowadays are for a years pay/compensation if they get sacked

For what DC has done for us I would hope the majority of fans would stick with him if we were to go through a bad spell. I would only question it if we were to get relegated, even if we finished 20th I would fully back him going into the following season.
Every manager will have a few bad seasons in them. DC is one of the best young managers in the game.

Remember 5 years doesn't equate to constant winning .... Rovers wont be renegotiating in five years after the champions league final victory. Bottom line is DC will be as good as anyone else the club might attract . Five years challenging for the playoffs will not be failure. Im sure there will be times when fans say he has lost the plot,is out of his depth, was just lucky before etc etc Just like Holloway was out of his depth...but went on to do well at championship clubs and manage in the premier league.
Things will not go to plan all the time. Patience and the bigger picture is the way forward.

Would love DC to be here for 10-15 years. If that included a relegation and another two promotions we'd still be a Championship club and infinitely better off than when he took over from John Ward. Managers like DC come along once in a generation or three for a club like Rovers and I would like to think that we'd stick with him even if we took a step backwards (relegation). Not sure if football works like that anymore though.

Great shout, you just know some on here will criticise the club for 'recklessly' handing out a 5 year contract!!

5 year contracts mean f**k all in football these days. Any contract means f**k all in football these days. But I agree with DC being well remunerated for what he's done to this club.
With regards to us having a poor start next season, some people will no doubt be calling for his head.
If we were 18th in November, its hard to say how I'd feel. Many other factors to consider - i.e. if we were playing sh**e, if we were playing well but just unlucky, how many points we were off play offs despite being 18th,whether we'd had any tonkings, etc etc.
Hard to say.

If we're 18th in November I'll still be 100% behind DC.
I can't see us getting in anyone better than him tbh.
Plus he's earned the full backing of fans if we do run into a rough patch.

Irrespective of the way we feel about DC, one of the things I liked about the deal was that it showed a declaration of intent on behalf of the Owners and the Board. Wael, SH etc obviously think that DC is the man to take the club forward, in the long term, on the pitch. They also know that DC is ambitious to develop the club behind the scenes (backroom staff and training facilities etc) and they also know how pivotal DC feels regarding the development of a new stadium. I don't think that the offer of the new contract would have been made by the Club, or accepted by DC, unless there was confidence and trust from both sides that the rest of the Club Development issues, including the stadium, were serious. In my view it is a fantastic statement of intent. The only thing that would make it any better was if DC would put in an offer for my house - it is perfect for him .

Without knowing the contract details it's impossible to make a decision, it could be DC's agree this season we'll make the Play Offs next season promotion etc, giving Wael get out clauses rather than just a straight year contract with no get out for the club.
