For some reason £70,000 leaps out with Steve Cross and £160,000 for Paul Hardyman.
Does Steve Cross live local still ? he played for Bath city and Maggotfield after rovers..
Yeah £70-80k for Cross, not sure about Hardyman but whatever it was it was far too much, total car crash of a player. A lot of non-Bristolian ex Rovers players stayed local after their careers ended. Just shows its a decent place to live compared to most places in the UK. He (Hardyman) signed from Sunderland (who paid less for him) and was a prem league player but sunderland got relegated and offloaded players. He had a good delivery of the ball but seemed to lack pace . Was an ok player but was on the slide. I wandered aroung that internet place just now and found out Steve Cross went on to do commentary on radio Shrewsbury...so im guessing being as he was from wolves he moved back up that way.

£370K is still a big fee by modern standards at this level. We may very well not break it but still spend big this summer. Thing is didn't we spend just under £1mil with Channing , Tilly and whatsisname back in the day? , and they called us rag bag Rovers mind , to think Francis only a couple of seasons before splashed out £10k out of his own sky rocket for Ollie, reckon the milkmen were money laundering back then 🤔😉 You're right. We did spend over £1 million in a short space of time between '90 and '92. Only problem is, we got relegated. Money alone is never the answer. Losing Gerry and breaking up the promotion team screwed us. The heart, unity and well-drilled professionalism that existed in that squad was worth well over the money we spent in trying to replace it. Big lessons to be learned from that now, in my opinion.
