I was down the Mem yesterday, pitch still needs a couple more weeks apparently, the line were the new sprinklers have been installed are still visible.
Looking good in stages though!

Apparently the City are planting potatoes around the outside of their pitch, so they will have something to lift at the end of the season.

I remember that season. It was one of the wettest winters on record. How the groundsman got the pitch even remotely playable was a miracle!
Those were testing times to be a Gashead, certainly the worst for me out of 50 or so years.
The sides Ward put out were boring, one-dimensional and defensive. I used to sit in the tent end and after about 20 mins was wishing for the final whistle.
Makes the Al Quadi and DC era even sweeter.

When GCCC put new drainage in a few seasons ago it took more than a year for the parallel lines of the new system to disappear, with the grass not growing so well on those areas.

Almost kind of embarrassing how complimentary DC was of melkshams pitch! Lol! Uh? 1 - ours has been brilliant for many years & will be even better 2 - DC was being kind & positive. It is flat and new, but was also actually very dry and also thin and dusty in the corners.

"Brilliant for many years" I guess you weren't there when Rugby was played on it then... nah. i'm a total newbie. just discovered rovers (or 'bristol' as I prefer to call us). the groundstaff have done a great job for many years and produced better than expected pitchs even when the rugby were here. since they left they have been able to REALLY show how good they are.
