Yes, he's almost 28, 7 years into professional football, already has 40 goals, but is this the season when Gaffney officially breaks out as a player?
In terms of years, he's in his prime at 27, going into 28. He scored a couple late last season, and a few at the start. With 3 today, he's on the up.
Expect him to nab himself 10-15 goals this season depending on service. Hopefully we can get 1-2 more strikers though, since those who went to Melksham say that we're still lacking up top.

The gulf in quality of Melksham and our aspiration of being a top 6 league 1 club this season is quite vast.
This probably his last season wit us if he doesnt get those goals, again if it is match our aspirations we will need to have 15+ goal scoring strikers

I like Gaffney. You know he will always give 100%, run himself into the ground, put himself about and never give defenders a moments peace. He has also showed he can finish, the lovely left foot volley and calm/skillful first against Leyton Orient in League Two springs to mind. If he could just add a few more goals to his game. He's more than capable. Hopefully this season.

I think that he sometimes fails to read the game, and thus finds himself out of position to receive the ball or a pass to him goes astray.
Hopefully the coaches can help him in this respect. I think he's a decent player for this level, and with dvelopment could/should become a 10-15 goals per season player.

I think it has to be taken in to consideration that Gaffney only played 50 games in the Irish top flight and made 111 appearances in the second tier. When he moved to English football he was still fairly inexperienced in relative terms. He had also only played 7 games for Cambridge when we signed him. He could be described as a late developer, is still learning at this level and will hopefully get better with experience.

Loan to a league two or Conference team tbh, hard worker, if he scores 15-20 I'll put £100 in FFS

He looked so unfit in the first game of last season, absolutely puffing on 55 minutes at Scunthorpe. Come the end of the season he looked very sharp and netted a few goals. Like others have said, he's a confidence player, but if he works on his positioning for crosses and his heading, combined with his neat footwork he could potentially score 15+.

Seems a bit OTT after one friendly against Melksham. Gaffney is a decent player to have though.

If Ellis can do it, Rory can.
Of course Ellis hasn't done it yet, but if Rory can do it, Ellis can.

He could be described as a late developer, is still learning at this level and will hopefully get better with experience. Barry Hayles was 25 years old when he played his first professional game, and it didn't do him any harm. There's nothing wrong with being a late starter. As the saying does, if you're good enough, you're old enough.

He's got the tools. Needs to work less hard and get in the box though.

RG on his day when he's on fire is amazing - RG on a bad day is invisible - his troubles to me seem to be mentality and self belief. I think if he became more selfish, arrogant, and truelly believed in himself then we would have a very special player on our hands but as he's too nice then he's just good. I'd like to see him get stronger with his upper body and then I think he would benefit more on the pitch from that too! He has also got to learn to conserve energy better!

He has taken the slow boat into full-time football so in many ways is really at a sort of 23-25 year old stage of development. for that stage i think he's a decent player and someone who can improve. I realise it was only a tiring melksham team but his performance still showed positive signs that could be replicated in a game against better oppo - a rocket of a shot, more skill than people give him credit for, and a great attitude. leads the line in an old fashioned, effective way. Given a bit of time and coaching i think he could have a good season for us.

I reckon I could put three past Melksham for Rovers. Suggest you ask DC foe a trial. all on the website www.bristolrovers.co.uk/club/Please Note: If you are a player looking for a trial with the club then please do not contact us online with requests, as these will be ignored. Please instead send us a CV with as much detail of your experience and achievements as possible to the club's postal address, marked for the attention of 'The First Team Manager'. If possible, please also include a DVD of you in action, as this could gain you a significant advantage. If you are a young footballer looking to break into the game and currently have minimal experience and little in the way of a CV, please still contact us in the same way, and once again, if possible, please also include a DVD of you in action.
