He's obviously worked hard in training & impressed enough to be given a chance. I don't get the negativity around this as I see it his signing doesn't rule out another centre half be that Sweeney or similar. I think he replaces Hartley who probably wouldn't have got in the side anyway.

Probably a similar situation to when Swindon signed Aden Flint and I imagine their fans were pretty underwhelmed at the time. Like him or not, he didn't turn out to be the worst signing did he? Flint was an England C international who cost £150k.

Bodin was a 23-year-old former Welsh U21 international who had played nearly 100 league games for various clubs. Broadbent was last at a relegated Southern Prem side and has no league experience. A big difference. Hopefully Broadbent will prove to be a good signing though. . Bodin last played for a struggling Northampton though and realeased from them, with thier fans saying he was shocking. Wales have had some shocking U21 players in the past, so that means nothing Sounds like he hasn't played higher through choice though, as he was in the forces. Could be a good find and I doubt he will be on big wages, so will leave money for other players. DC been seeing him in training, not just watched a few clips of him. He only played 4 games for Northampton because of injuries.

Been waiting for this to happen . Saw the guy at Melksham, trust me, this guy is going to be just as imposing as Sweeney.
Built like a body builder, in my opinion more mobile than Sweeney and he can play and score the odd goal or two. Yes, he hasn't played league football before, especially at this standard, but he has all the attributes you need for a centre half. Wouldn't be surprised to see him first choice along side Locks.
DC has uncovered a goodun I'm sure.

Ex-pongo eh? Well, we've all got our crosses to bear!
Good luck to the lad. He is not a pampered lad who has progressed via youth team football, but someone who has had a real job. You just know that he will love every second of his football career because he knows what it is like on 'the other side'. I think he will have the same sort of attitude as The Beard, and that is a huge compliment.

Broadbent has been the pleasant surprise of pre season for me (and some others). He ticks all the initial requirement boxes and he's still relatively young. He has a military background and that means he's raw for his age but full time pro coaching could really allow him to hit the next level very quickly.
I think it is possible to evaluate players regardless of opposition but obviously better to see them against quality as well. The report from last night suggested that the two Tom's played well together against higher level opposition.
It's as clear cut a trial for me, after watching him for 3 games, as watching Bodin for 2 games (Salisbury and Cirencester). A year as understudy to Sweeney and we will have found ourselves a player. Utg

Doubt Sweeney is coming now. Very disappointing. Well this lad might be as good as Sweeny or even better. I remember people being pretty disappointed with Sweenys loan signing the day of it. Another kid, another loan, blah blah we're going to struggle, Joe Lumley ? Who the f**ks that ? Another kid , another loan Christ what a stupid name ..... This lads only a good or bad signing when he's played some games for us and we see how he does.

Really don't want to knock this signing but does he add anything more than what we already have with James Clarke, Jonny Burn or Joe Partington - seems a bit odd to me.

We've already got Partington, Burn and Clarke as back up CB's, I'd loved to be proved wrong but I can't see DC now re-signing Sweeney or an other CB.
I'm all for signing non league players but dropping below the National League for players seems a gamble.

Sweeney was a youth international who performed well for Wimbledon and had numerous Prem sides looking to sign him, always looked a decent signing to me. But then Lambert was also a fat midfielder and Jason Roberts useless, so I usually take forum opinions with a pinch of salt. Good luck to the lad Broadbent...I hope he does well and takes this opportunity with both hands.

He's a left footer with decent distribution, 6ft3, very strong and dominant in the defensive heading side of his game. He's not slow for a big'un either!!

Give him a chance to show what he can do, he's impressed in pre season, I'm sure he will be a useful signing.
