It's a relief that news has finally come out. Can concentrate on football now rather than everyone waiting for news.
The Al-Qadi's are very successful investment bankers and know what they're doing with their money. If they didn't think the deal was worth it then it's for the best of the club that it hasn't been signed and we'll build a new stadium that's even better for the club in the long run. UTG!

New training ground, backroom staff bigger and better than ever, DC highest paid manager in our history, fees paid for JP, TN, LS, Improvements to the mem/pitch. Some people spout some crap, remember the mess we were in under NH? unless a plan b stadium is magiced out of nowhere then I'm afraid that is all well and good but won't progress any further from our current position. DC will have his head turned. New academy players if any good will be approached by other clubs and have another reason to not stay. staff can be let go as quickly as they are hired to cut losses. Live I hope that there is a plan B..will have to wait and find out. Chin up old chap.

Well that's a big £30m hole in the UWE's finances.

I think when dc signed the contract he already knew the stadium was very unlikely. My dream is that we can redevelop the mem into a 20,000 all seater stadium and have the room at the site for conference facilities and retail outlets but i dont know if thats possible. Its a massive test in faith now for the fans with regards to the owners commitment to the cause at the club. Personally im backing wael to deliver a championship team and a new or improved ground in the near future.

Why people keep saying the cost of the land was too high is nonsense. We knew months ago they weren't prepared to sell the freehold.
I would love to think that we have pulled out as we were being offered a crap deal. That would be quite right to do so. I just can't help thinking 'was the money really there'.
Perhaps the club can issue a fully detailed statement saying why it was not possible to close the deal. That would resolve all the issues, because UWE would be able to publically refute any porkies then.
By the way, the five year deal DC has, is great for the club from a compensation point of view if anyone else wants him. But he can still be sacked at a cost of one years pay, no matter if he signed a 50 year contract. It's a gimme in all management contracts we offer. Same with this one.

Would be nice for the club to wheel someone out tomorrow, probs Hamer, to discuss what the next steps are rather than leaving us in the lurch.

I'm taking the positives out of this. I still believe the Al-Qadi's will deliver for us, Successive promotions, a top ten finish back in League One, a top class young manager signing a 5 year contract, improvements to the pitch, clear improvements to the youth set up and a newly formed development squad, and The Colony is an indication that they are fulfilling the promise they gave when they took over. In all honesty The UWE was a boring design in the middle of nowhere, I think we all got carried away because it was just a stadium which we badly need, but under Higgs blueprint it would of been a huge disaster for the club, the Al-Qadis found a plethora of flaws with the plans and tried to work with UWE to improve them but The UWE wouldn't budge. Hopefully the Al-Qadis have a plan B which will be in a better location, a better design, a bigger capacity and far better facilities. I still have faith in Wael and the family to deliver. Being a bit sarcastic you could say DC got a 5 year contract so he stood a chance of being here when/if we move to a new stadium. Because I struggle to see a much shorter timescale now for any Plan B be it redeveloped Mem (which I don't think is a good option) or new site elsewhere. What with planning, objections, build time etc etc. Being a bit more sarcastic, he could have known the stadium was dead & being the man he is, thought that by signing for 5 years, if he does a job this season, he can leave & we will get some good compo for him. Seriously though, it shouldn't change anything on playing side for this season atm, it might in the future tho should we get promoted, unless there is a plan B. TBH if there isn't a Plan B, the club will have difficulty explaining why there wasn't, as I agree, I don't think the Mem is a good option at all, due to the location, it makes travel there a nightmare. Also, I can't see planning going very smoothly - perhaps our friends at S Glos can help - but goodness knows where

Well that's a big £30m hole in the UWE's finances. Why? They can now put houses on it for top dollar land prices. That was the problem all along.

Staying at The Mem would be ideal, but it can only be redeveloped to an 18k capacity, plus it will cost more than to build a new one from scratch. Hopefully a plan B will be in the same vein as Brighton's, that is easily the best out of the new build stadiums.

Where is the information he would only be paid for 1 year if he was sacked? Hes not a fool and it would be totally pointless for him to sign the contract if that was the case. It would actually restrict his ability to leave for a bigger club at no gain to himself,no sense at all in that is there?

It would actually restrict his ability to leave for a bigger club at no gain to himself,no sense at all in that is there? It's probably standard in these contracts. It's good all round, except for us if we want to sack him as we need to pay 12 months salary, but I assume he can get another job. If he wants to leave, we get compo (transfer fee if you like). I just think that if we had the stadium on the horizon then we would be a more attractive proposition, if a championship club came calling now, I doubt we could keep hold of him.

Oh god meltdown panic more panic meltdown. Sack the board. Wael out etc. While disappointing we can't say it's too big a surprise. UWE had a good deal from Higgs when they held all the cards and I suspect it was too high a price in the end for the Al-Qadi's who don't need to be held to such a cost. At least that's what I think How I see it too . f**k the university it was a sh**e idea thought up by a sh**e chairman who was panicking because he knew he'd be leaving soon and was desperate to get his money back. End of story as far as I'm concerned.

I feel as if they don't really want to put millions of their own money into the club.. we have had 2 promotions spending not very much and that has made everything look good. been cheap success.. we will see what the Board are all about in next couple weeks and months. New training ground, backroom staff bigger and better than ever, DC highest paid manager in our history, fees paid for JP, TN, LS, Improvements to the mem/pitch. Some people spout some crap, remember the mess we were in under NH? Yes and if he was still Chairman we would probably be building a soulless bowl of a stadium right now that we wouldn't even own or make much money from DC would almost certainly be gone and by next season we'd be doing a Coventry. In Wael and DC I trust UTG
