My own opinions from last night's game.
Smith 6.5 Didn't have too much to do, kicking seemed slightly off.
Leadbitter 6.5 One good burst of pace early on but got fouled and seemed to affect his confidence going forward Lockyer 6 Just about comfortable against lower league opposition Sweeney 7 Won his battles in the first half againt the no. 9 who then avoided Sweeney for the entirety of the second half Brown 8 Great ball for Bodin's opener and a nice cross for Harrison's goal
Bodin 8.5 Two well-taken goals and good forward interplay Sercombe 8.5 Good first impression. Tidy but incisive in possession. Very well taken goal Lines 7 A more subdued game, but kept us ticking over Sinclair 7 Not at home out on the left but didn't slow the play down or leave any holes defensively.
Nichols 7.5 Another who impressed with his link-up play Harrison 7 Fairly good game, good header
Subs: Partington 3 Completely out of sorts when he came on. Didn't adjust to the pace of the game an wasn't on the same wavelength as his teammates. Gaffney 6.5 Held the ball up well and brought others into the game Moore 6.5 More promising signs as he took the opposition on often
Crowd 3 Quiet, not unexpected for the League Cup first round, but felt like a pre-season game at times. Ref 9.5 Can't remember a single decision I disagreed with Cambridge 5 Hard to judge them as a league 2 side

Results in and Liam Sercombe was Man of the Match with a score of 8.18.
This is the seventh time in these threads that a player had scored twice or more and not won MotM. It has happened to Bodin once before, also at home to Cambridge (in March 2016 when he scored twice but Montano was MotM).
All the other occasions were by Matty Taylor. In fact of the nine (Alfreton, Carlisle, Wycombe, Hartlepool, Crawley, Rochdale, MK Dons, Crawley*, Wimbledon) times he scored two or more he was only named MotM thrice (the games in bold, all of which he scored a hat-trick).
*Tbf Gaffney also scored twice in that game, so one of them had to miss out.
This was the best referee rating for a cup match in the last three years of these threads, beating the 7.1 from last year's first round match against Cardiff. Kevin Johnson also rated higher than any referee in the entirety of last season.
