Just about a week left and all very quiet.
Buoyed by two very good performances i'm starting to wonder if DC is thinking 'No need to commit more funds now'
I still think we need a Striker and certainly a winger .. most recognise it, some have said it. What do people think? Some last minute dealings possibly... Would we dare spend on a permanent or are we looking at one or two squad players from higher leagues? Or are we done for now and full steam ahead for the first part of the season.

We have to be getting a winger in!

The striker isn't going to happen unfortunately. DC seems to be placing a lot of faith in Ellis Harrison. Let's hope it isn't misplaced...
Winger is a must and DC said about getting a DM which we probably do need especially if Ollie gets injured.

I reckon if we put all our eggs in one class left winger basket that might just be enough.

I'd like a winger, defensive midfielder and a striker. It wouldn't surprise me if nothing happens though unfortunately.

Luton aren't done, just signed Luke Berry, not bad for a 10th signing!

It seems that EH is our main striker for this season - a bit stunned about this to be honest. We know he has made progress these past few years but he isn't quite there in my eyes and thought he'd only be a back-up striker. But Left winger more important as I've got a bit more faith in EH than I have in Moore. We haven't got a promotion team/squad as things stand.

I think that we have a really good squad at the moment - Sercombe looks a great addition and I think Tom Nichols is going to prove all of the doubters wrong and turn into a prolific scorer. Some of the lesser known names (eg Broadbent, Bola and Telford) also look like adding something extra.
My only problem at the moment is that I think we look slightly limited in variation. We don't have the personnel to allow anything other than a fairly narrow formation (especially when Bodin seems to be tucking in behind, or as part of, the front 2.
Apart from the debacle of the Peterborough game, I am happy with the defensive unit and the defensive backup in the squad.
We seem awash with options in the central midfield area. DC has said that he would like a defensive midfielder but I would be more than happy to see Lines play in that role - I think we look much more of a threat when he is playing deeper and looking to pick up the ball from the defenders and distribute from there - using Sercombe in a more advanced position.
I am pleased that Harrison has started to show his promise in the last couple of games (although I rate Gaffney slightly better with more of a goal threat). I can't see us adding in that department. I also think that either or both of Nichols and Telford are going to come good too.
What that leaves is the lack of a wideman or men. I would love to see us add in that department to give us more options and the ability to change to a wider shape.

We will add 2 if not 3 players.
Left winger for certain, possibly a target man type striker and an outside chance on a DMC.

We just need those 2 extra men to round of the squad.
I still think we are quite weak and not entirely confident unfortunately.

I'm confident in the squad we have. What we needed to do this year was reinforce the spine of the squad with good quality players and I feel we've almost done this. We have successfully sorted the Goalkeeping situation that we've had over the last couple of years by bringing in two proven L1 keepers and we have kept the Lockyer Sweeney partnership, whilst bringing in Sercombe who looks like he could be the signing of the summer for us. Bola, Nichols and Telford look promising but still need games to show us what they can do at this level. Hopefully Gaffney and Harrison will kick on a bit this year as I still feel there is goals in them at this level although if this is still not proven after Christmas we may have to look at bringing another in.
I would agree with other posters about having limited options out wide, an injury to bodin or Moore leaves us without sufficient depth and having to play players such as Sinclair and Sercombe out wide when they are better suited to the middle. I suspect that we may see DC use transfer deadline day to get one or two in for the positions already discussed, I just hope their not loans as we have had our fair share of other people's talents in our squad over the last twelve months and I feel 2-3 more permanents may be needed so DC can have the 25 man squad that he desires. If we can sort out the form on our travels, I can see us pushing for at least top 10, maybe even top 6.

Lots of people seem to be crying out for a striker to sign before the end of the window but I just can't see it happening. We already have Gaffney, Harrison, Nichols, Telford and some would argue Bodin. With 4/5 first team strikers and DC often only playing with one and then two wide men in a 4-3-3, I can't see him spending more money on a striker. Especially as he keeps saying he is only after 2 more signings.
Winger on the other hand, that is definitely needed and could be the difference between mid-table obscurity and a real challenge for the play-offs.

Would love for us to squeeze in another couple of decent permanent signings (LW & Striker) in the limited time that's left but not entirely confident that will happen given DC's luke warm response last time he was asked. That said if that's not possible I reckon DC will dip into the loan market so we're not left completely without in these areas.
My biggest concern at the moment tbh is keeping BBB away from any poachers until the end of the window! Hold your breath and cross everything you have everyone!

Is DC looking to play a 442 system regularly this season? If not do we need this winger?

I feel the same as some other posters. IE why sign a winger when we dont play with wingers? I agree it gives us more flexibility but the best any winger can hope for is 20 minutes from the bench mostly. PS with the 4-3-3 system bodin has become more or less striker imo .

Anybody know any decent left wingers we could go for that would add a bit of expertise to our front line? Carayol signed for anybody yet? Maybe even right sided if BB wants to cut in!

The kind of player I would have liked to see at Rovers and am surprised to see him stay in League 2 I thought Ipswich were interested and that it would have been League 1 at least. Luton look to have bought well and could be the Champions elect in that league. UTG!
